I am trying to practice photography and took some Proto-Harold photos in my yard! The Canon Rebel XT that I bought used in 2016 is still pretty okay lmao
I'm hoping to take some more promo photos for his pre-order! (which I hope to do this month? But need to discuss with the caster)
Lil Harold photo dump from yesterday! These are the two full set gray/clear Harolds I just finished.
Every cast Harold together in one photo! (or several)
I'm starting shipping this week! Time to send Harolds into the world. What chaos will they cause
WHO GOES THERE
On future Harolds
Hey all! So, all of the Harolds I brought to Resin Rose found homes. There are no more Harolds! (well, three of you are still doing layaway; don't worry, I didn't get rid of yours lol)
A question I got pretty commonly at the convention (and also get outside of it) is whether I will do another cast of Harold. I really appreciate the interest and I think it's amazing that enough people like the sculpt enough to want one and ask me about it! But if you want the tl;dr... the answer is, probably not.
I do want to touch on something else about this though, which is that having support during the preorder period, rather than afterwards, is critical to me being able to continue to create as a doll artist.
I realize that I'm a relatively new bjd artist, having only released two dolls and one head sculpt, and part of this sentiment probably comes from people having missed the ordering period due to not knowing who I am (obviously there can be other factors, but I recognize that building a following takes time).
But I just want to explain that, in order to sell extra "in-stock" dolls after the preorder ends, these are dolls I have to purchase myself. It costs me a not insignificant amount to "float" a doll order for many months, and I don't have much of anything in the way of capital to do so. The extra Harolds specifically came from a small inheritance from a relative, and I don't think I'll be able to repeat doing that in the future. Regarding printing dolls: while it is something I will do in the future, the production itself takes time away from my own sculpting and future projects, and I would not want to make many "extras" for that reason. I have fibromyalgia and I cannot just churn these things out or sculpt quickly, and when I am done with a project, it is best for me to redirect my attention (and limited energy) to my next project. I have to allocate my SPOONS, as they say...
Because of these reasons, it would be good to keep in mind that I will not likely re-release any of my dolls. Is it totally out of the realm of possibility? No, but I don't really see it happening unless a few of my life circumstances and/or personality change. (Also, I mean, I have had so many words probably flagging the algorithm that I don't care to say this here either but: tariffs are also very much a big barrier towards artist cast dolls and I do not want to have any dolls cast until that changes.)
So.... If you want one of my dolls and are able, please support my preorders! I'm legitimately at the point where a failed preorder would prevent me from making future dolls, as I invest a huge amount of time into sculpting (every doll I have sculpted has taken me at least one year of unpaid labor), and then I have the expense of prototyping (werewolf Violet took 8 bottles of resin), and then time and energy into publicizing my preorder.
I really hope that none of this is read as a complaint, by the way. I'm incredibly grateful and happy that people have shown an interest in my work. It's really a dream come true and I'm so happy being able to sculpt like this. I just hope that this can explain the situation a little more and my reasoning behind it, for anyone who was wondering about this.
I weathered Harold robes today! There are 12 of them. Last photo is the before pic.
Going to stain them soon, but I have to do some fabric tests to decide what I want to use, whether it be tea, coffee, ink, or acrylic (or all of the above).
A lil behind-the-scenes of the Harold photoshoot I did today for the two full-set dolls. Just a small set of shots by a hibiscus because someone had parked a truck just out of frame lmao
Bonus photo of a bee because she was cute
