August 22, 1968   Well, just settled after transferring to my new base. I can’t remember when I wrote my last letter. I have done so many things I lost track of time.. I hope you weren’t worried too much when you didn’t receive a letter from me.

Good news. The base is jacked out with hot and cold running water and flush type toilets. I never thought i'd feel hot water on my butt again. You have that big smug grin on your face from thinking about how happy this is making me, don't you?

    Bad news, we're on alert. I have my loaded rifle hanging on the wall just above your picture, a m-14. I want to keep both of them in view at all times. Guess the improvements are keeping my mind off the current situation. Funny, I thought about naming my gun Alyssa but I didn't want to feel like I was replacing you.

    Think about when if i become some kind of war hero writing about my experiences. "Alyssa in my hands, gripping her tight. We both have a man in our sights just waiting for it." oh man, I'm laughing pretty hard here, the guys are starting to stare at me like some crazy goon that's enjoying himself too much. (i am)

    I keep your letters tucked in this pistol holder that bands around my thigh. I keep reading that one with you tripping in your parent's back yard during that picnic. You tried to catch yourself but it was just an ice bucket for the drinks. Said it fell straight on your head. Everyone called you "BucketHead" for days.     I thought about writing my death letter... squad keeps asking if i ever did. I told them I didn't fucking need one. I'll be home soon. Either Fallout or Ledgend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. I used to watch my brother play Fallout all the time when i was little, and i’ve played all the games myself several times, and it mostly has to do with fond memories rather than the actual gameplay. (its also the reason i collect bottle caps) Ocarina of Time was literally the first video game i ever played and i got so emotionally invested in it, I wouldn’t put it down until i beat it! and then after that, i would start another game and play it all over again!
