I am pro thrifty shopping and making every dollar count. However, I feel very uncomfortable about this video.

There isn’t a ‘coupon’ system like this where I live so the concept of over purchasing on this scale is quite foreign.

I get that this woman has the coupon game down to a scarily fine art. The amount of living space in her house needed to store all the coupons and her wares is excessive though. A closet full of soft drink bottles anyone???

Hoarding excesses of groceries on this scale and especially things that you have no need for, just because you got them for free, must surely have crossed the line between savvy shopping and just pure greed.

Good haul today from the the farmers market and a local eco shop in my city! I managed to use no waste, except for the paper bag I got for a vegan spinach pie. At the farmers market I got kale, spaghetti squash, garlic, raspberries, strawberries, cilantro, veg samosas, spinach pie, and a reusable & handmade dish cloth. Then I was able to check out this new eco shop that opened up called Green Envy. I bought a reusable bamboo toothbrush travel case (been looking for one!), and then in bulk I got dish soap, lavender hand soap, and lavender shampoo. I’m very happy with all my purchases today

Smart: Buying a year’s supply of something when it’s on sale for a wicked good price.

Stupid. So very, very stupid: Buying a year’s supply of something heavy, with no way of getting it home.

My Plastic Free July tip! I got these cashews and pumpkin seeds at Whole Foods in the bulk food section. Here's what you do: 1. Bring some jars. Any jars. 2. Take them to a cashier and ask them to weigh each jar. Write the weight on the bottom with a sharpie. 3. Go fill your jars with goodies! 4. Bring them back to the cashier. They will weigh and then subtract the weight of the jar written on the bottom. Honestly I was weirdly intimidated the first time I did it, but it's so worth it! Now you have zero waste goodies, grains, nuts, seeds, beans, etc. And, as a bonus, they look beautiful in your favorite jars!

Shopping in bulk is a great way to save money, but when you live in a small space, it's hard to find a spot to stash that platoon-sized palette of toilet paper.

Then, with your list in hand, you're going to hop online and set email price alerts for the things on your list. .... What you're after, at the end of the day, is a fully automated personal shopper, right in your email inbox. Your alerts will let you know exactly when prices drop enough to make it worthwhile to stock up—kind of like you're masterfully navigating the stock market.

I’m going to be honest, I think Apartment Therapy’s idea to make yourself beholden to a shopping service sucks.  Shopping should not fucking be like navigating the stock market.

Personally, I am supporting businesses that allow me to bulk shop and bring my own containers.  I want a grocery where I can buy anything in my own packaging/containers, exactly as much as I need.

Buying in bulk and package free is really the best way to go.

As a bulk buyer I would have LOVED if toothpaste buckets were real. Imagine getting a legendary 25 pounder for $40 and it lasting you the whole year and you’ll still have some leftover.

Bulk buying is one of the only other consumer habits I’d encourage people to adapt. You need to take care of your teeth anyway, so you might as well save in the long term because of it. Hell, now that im upset that there’s no Croatian toothpaste bucket, it’s got me looking at bulk orders of paste to see where I could buy. The waste that will come from that though…. [shudders]
