Our Gift Giving Guide: Specialty Subscription Boxes
Thanks to Covid-19, many friends and families may be going through the Christmas blues. Most U.S. states are re-entering lockdown to try and curb the virus’ spread. With parties and large group celebrations out, some are racking their brains for gift ideas that can be sent to loved ones easily without a trip to the post office. Sure, online purchases are easy, but what if you want a gift that will lift someone’s spirit year round? That’s were a gift subscription box could be your answer.
In a collaboration with my fellow writers, Sam and Kira, we decided to give you some gift giving inspiration for this holiday season. I, myself, will be covering specialty subscription boxes like snack subscriptions, K-Pop-inspired boxes, and miscellaneous boxes. Sam will cover digital subscriptions like streaming platforms and video game subscriptions and Kira will let you know what the best music and beauty subscription boxes are. To start, I looked at snack subscription boxes. For the ones that I found, they all ended up having a theme. And that theme is the fact that it's universal, as these snacks come from all over the world.
Universal Yums is a snack subscription with a three different sized boxes. The first option is getting 6+ snacks, which costs $13.75 a box when paying for a year subscription, which would be $165 for a full year. But if you'd rather pay one month at a time, it's $15 a box. The next option consists of 12+ snacks and is $22.92 per box when paying for a year subscription, which comes to a total of $275 a year. If you want the month to month option, each box costs $25. Lastly is the largest size, which is 20+ snacks for $35.75 per box, which amounts to $429 for a full year. If you don't want to pay for a full year, each box costs $39. Most of these boxes are just snacks curated from all over the world. Sometimes, they'll even throw a drink in.
