I like this article! Golf is back in the Olympics, despite criticism that it's not as important as the 4 majors. However, as the article states, "Competitions aren’t born with prestige. That’s something that is developed over time." I agree that one could have made a similar argument when tennis was reintroduced to the Olympics in Seoul 1988, but the gold medal is becoming just as important as winning a grand slam title. I also agree that golf should take advantage of such a prestigious competition, since, for some sports, the gold medal is the highest honor. In addition, it gives athletes an opportunity to represent their countries on a massive global stage. More people will watch golf in the Olympics than they will at any other time simply because it's the Olympics; even I caught myself watching sports solely during the quadrennial fortnight of sports, such as fencing or swimming, and I plan on watching golf next summer.
