Hi, coming to you with a fic related question. I was wondering about your The Wretched series: is there an explenation to why Sephiroth reacts differently to Tifa's revelations in Crawl Home and in Burn Together? Like she does not talk to him at the same moment (in one you said she comes back in the morning in the other in the afternoon) or maybe doesn't tell him the same things? Or was it just a flip of a coin kind of situation? (sorry if this is a nuisance)

In Burn Together Tifa arrived a day later. Sephiroth was 24 hours of jenova’s whispering closing to the precipice, and because of that he didn’t interrogate her so sceptically, he didn’t ask for evidence, he didn’t wake up Vincent to get a second opinion. And because his demeanour was closer to his mad self, Tifa reflexively made herself more adversarial in her explanation. Less ‘you were defeated,’ more ‘we defeated you.’ Less ‘jenova failed and you were utterly alone’ more ‘we rose to the challenge’. Sephiroth cannot accept failure, but he will always accept an opponent.

Had she said exactly the right things it probably still wouldn’t have gone well, but she could have avoided making herself enemy number 1.
