Where will they go from here?
They came from a far away place, so different to Melbourne, forced by the hand of war, poverty and fear, towards a land of hope. Towards Burn City. Being a son of a father who found it difficult to assimilate, I can spot people like him a mile away. They are truly out of their natural habitat. Its sad. I often think about who they could have been in another lifetime. I can literally see my father in the formed silhouette of the man in this video, who seems almost lost, as he’s walking out his daily routine. Its people like my father, like this beautiful stranger, who made the inner northern suburbs what they are today, the soul of Melbourne. The hipsters chose Northcote and Brunswick for a reason. It’s sad to think that one day when I drive through the streets of Brunswick, in between valuations, this integral part of our present culture will one day disappear.
