Correct me if I'm wrong, but my guess Burnfoot got killed by either being caught on fire, smoke inhalation, or by a tree/branch that fell on them because of the fire, or killed by a clanmate or another cat for causing the fire.
Those are a lot of guesses! lol
You were right with one though, Burnfoot got caught in a fire while they were being held prisoner by their leader who was trying to find out what to do with them. They were tucked in a tunnel, their guards ran away and trapped them.
The irony of it? They didn't set the fire that killed them.
There was a drought and WindClan had been experiencing tiny little brush fires because of the drought. This one just happened to be in camp.

They're...like okay not a sociopath per say but they're one of the Dark Forest cats who sort of skirts the line. They didn't have friends really, they were an only kit and they were too mean for other kits to play with. That doesn't mean they weren't lonely!
The one time they actually felt bad about their actions was when a clan mate they liked accidentally got burned a little. Everyone who died via the fires he set be damned but god forbid Lambwhistle gets one cinder on his pelt.

Burnfoot was a WindClan cat who, even as a kit, had a fascination with fire. They saw a lightning strike hit a tree on the moor as a kit and saw the fear and power the fire wielded and wanted some of that for their own. So they started setting fires.
Burnfoot even set a fire that put into motion one of my comic's most evil characters.
Burnfoot is Pansexual Aromantic! They're also NB, using They/Them pronouns.
They pretty much get along with nobody in the forest but they do like Blossomfeather and Owlwhisker who kind of adopt them. They DO NOT get along with Firefall.
