It's here! The new music video to Polka Dot Girl!
6 questions for Karl Dmitri Bishop.
Photographer/ visual artist Karl Dmitri Bishop has been hard at work crafting a video to accompany our next single Polka Dot Girl. Released on September 2nd on Snakehand Records, the video, a rousing, unique and mesmerising piece of visual art will be available for your viewing pleasure on this page from the day of release (02/09).
In light of this collaboration, to help us get inside the mind of Karl we asked him six questions. Q1. What first made you want to be a photographer/visual artist?
KDB: I've lived in Cambridge my whole life. When I was 14 I received my first 35mm SLR and started experimenting in the dark room at school through to college. My bedroom was always an overwhelming place, with images from magazines and album covers stuck up all over the wall. After travelling around India and China with more than one camera, everything just came pretty naturally. From then on I've kind of taught myself just through trial and error.
Q2. How would you describe your artistic style?
KDB: There's something unsettling going on, but you can't really put your finger on it.
Q4. What first came to your mind upon hearing Polka Dot Girl?
KDB: It was as if I had just seen into the dark mysterious sexy natural soul of a woman. There's a magical combination Burning Condors have created with the sound and lyrics
Q3. When creating the video for single Polka Dot Girl what did you aim to bring to the track?
KDB: I wanted to show my vision of that woman, but keep her hidden. The more you don't show the viewer the more it leaves the viewers imagination to work and dream up their own interpretation of that woman. The suspense I guess, for me it's much more scary not to see the ghost in a horror film and when you do it's not so frightening. It's the not knowing.
Q5. What is your favourite music video and why?
KDB: That's a tough one. Well apart from Burning Condor's Polka Dot Girl... Hole's Miss World, Kate Bush's Weighting Heights and Daisy Chainsaw's Pink Flower. I love them for their alternative breath of fresh air, a world full of vivid imagery and attitude.
Q6. Do you own any clothing featuring Polka Dots?
KDB: I do actually. I have a vintage jumper I brought in America... guess what... it's a polka dot jumper! It's actually one of my favourite jumpers, I'll be wearing it this Autumn with pride now!
So there you have it. Plenty of intriguing answers indeed. If this has tickled your taste buds, which I'm sure it has, you can find Karl Dmitri Bishop's work here - Karl Dmitri Bishop Photography: www.karldmitribishop.com
