EXPLORING MALTA’S GREENER SIDE AT BUSKETT
Buskett Gardens are located in the picturesque valley of Wied Il-Luq, between the towns of Siggiewi and Dingli, in the south of Malta. The gardens are a fertile woodland that extends over 30 hectares, they are one of the greenest areas on the island. Various trees, shrubs and wildflowers grow in the gardens, as well as vineyards, orangeries, and olive groves. Due to its large bird population, Buskett Gardens are identified as an Important Bird Area (IBA).
Planted by the knights of the Order of Saint John, the woodlands served as their hunting grounds in the 16th century. Today Buskett Gardens provide a quiet space to relax and take in the view, walk along different trails and discover secluded spots. Overlooking the gardens from a hilltop is Verdala Palace, the official summer residence of the President of Malta since 1987.
