First, they talked to a partner, exchanging ideas about what the passive voice is, when it is used and how it is formed.

“WARMING UP” TIPS

Our kids like games and hate speaking English early in the morning. And in that case, a good warming-up activity is a key thing of a successful lesson.

One our students is really into searching, exploring and solving, he likes puzzles and riddles. He is a bit lazy and he doesn’t seem to like language classes at all (especially when I make him speak).

Once I decided to give him somewhat like an “easy treatment”. We didn’t start our lesson with twisters or any other speaking activity, instead, we gave the boy a word search. He was so excited! He started looking for the words, he was eager to find them and afterward he read them happily without mistakes.

So, thanks to one of our professors, we discovered the world of “busyteaching”, where you can make your own word search or a scramble, exchange worksheets with other teachers and discuss your work with colleagues from all over the world.

So, you see, it’s rather easy and useful. You will spend just a couple of minutes to prepare a wonderful “Warm Up” for your lesson. Just try. Your kids will like it.

           My first look at busyteacher.org left me a little confused. Being older puts me at a disadvantage when surfing the web. I pulled up a worksheet on an Ed Sheeran song which I understood to be targeting 5th grade. The lyrics almost made me discard this site until I saw the “suggestive lyrics” warning with advice to use for older individuals. A second look at two worksheets on Albert Einstein used a biography fill in the blank and a word search puzzle to introduce and reinforce new vocabulary in the ELL student.

           This site is free, because of this, ads are everywhere and confusing to the less savvy browser. I think the site is worth the extra trouble of the learning curve it requires of me.

Not only does it provide worksheets for every level and subject but there are many instructional articles, classroom posters, and suggested books.

Normally my salads are so pretty, but I didn’t prep last night so I threw a salad quickly together and graded papers today while I ate 😢I have been finishing off that cruciferous blend of salad mix all week with the same cranberry poppyseed dressing from @wildtree.
