Quick, free way to warm up
This is something I stumbled onto by mistake while working the Renaissance Faire in 2019 during the autumn months, and it’s useful for if you’re walking around outside or your room is cold. Also, I’ll warn you, this sounds fake, but it’s not, I promise!!!
Make sure you’ve got a layer of insulation on - wrap in a blanket or something - and then start singing long, low notes, the lowest notes you can comfortably draw out for extended periods. Keep doing this, and soon not only will your torso warm up, so will your toes and fingers! This even passes the “Is the tip of my nose cold?” test. If you’re not comfortable singing, a nice deep hum will also work, though singing is faster. The important thing is that you want to get those notes vibrating in your chest. It doesn’t matter if you’re a ‘good’ singer or not, you just want those notes to be low and long.
This is a warmth that lasts for a decent amount of time, too, you’re helping your body warm itself up, and our bodies are pretty good at regulating our temperature if they have the right tools. An extra thing you can do is grab a blanket, sit on something that isn’t the ground (a piece of furniture, a wooden bench, your own foot, just keep your seat off the ground), and wrap the blanket around yourself so that there’s no drafts and your face is the only thing exposed, but the blanket isn’t wrapped tight around you - you want some air pockets in there. Once you start singing/humming, you’ll warm up the air that’s in there with you along with your body, and now you’ve got your own cozy little biome!
Stay safe, stay warm, keep singing.
