Part of me wants to be a teacher, but majority of me despises interacting with children. Now teenagers, maybe, but small children, no.

I would want my room Sherlock or Good Omens themed. Anyone who makes a really obscure refrence gets extra points on their assignment. If you read the original cannon for a project, extra points and a spot on my wall of nerds. If you watch the show and make refrences throughout the day, you'll be my favorite student.

As for what I would teach? Elementary general classes or high school chorus, literature, or STEM (the pathway I'm on rn). No way in hell I'm teaching Middle school.

How does a teacher navigate an active shooter drill while forcing everyone to wear masks and knowing everyone needs to be 6 feet apart? In what realm is the fact that I have to think about that for my students' safety seem okay to people? Make it make sense

The fact that I made this blog a whole week ago, but have not had the energy to come back and post until now is a big ass mood.

So as a first year English teacher during a pandemic, my heart reassures me but my body is tired. My love for my students is what keeps me going, but my hunger to help my students succeed can not be satisfied.

There’s so many obstacles in the way right now.

Distractions are behind those faces trying to learn and make their families proud.

However, there’s that glimmer of hope in my kids’ eyes.

Lighting up as they see dozens of faces at one time across their favorite devices: computers.

Before the pandemic, technology was a great engagement tool. Maybe there will be something great that comes out from all this.

My scholars are the future and all my bets are on them.
