The recent fanfiction trope tier list made me think the fact soulmate au fics seemingly aren't many people's cup of cacao (or maybe I just haven't met that many people who would genuinely like those as much as I do?) I think that's a bit shame, since while most of those are your 'they had x-thing that lead them to together, the end', there is like...so much potential in that au setting. While most of those are basically one-shots, (because the trope just works so well in that length) the potential of longer, the thrilling fic is there. I kind of wish people would see that and possibly write more such things or people wouldn't turn away right to way when they see the 'soulmate au' tag.
