21. Watermelon

He lies there in the aftermath, spent and uncertain, waiting to discover what comes next. What came before was almost cliché, although he never thought that Genma would choose him.

Genma rolls away. Fetches something. Gai’s heart, having sunk at the distance, beats wildly again. Genma must hear it.

A hand touches his cheek. A murmur is pressed against his lips, and a cloth into his hands. Quietly, they clean themselves up, and then that murmur returns. Gai is drawn against the warmth of Genma’s body once again, and he lets out a trembling breath.

This is what comes next.
