terrible au idea submission:
What if miitopia, but it's just an amateur play, and that's why the actually use the actor's names rather than the characters, to help them learn roles. It explains the casing bit, and the credits, plus the guardian spirit can just be a guy sat up in the rafters.
Only problem: when do the acts split?
I think Miitopia being a stage play might just be straight up canon! The way the beginning cutscene happens, the specific wording of casting, SO MANY TRANSITIONS IN THE GAME ARE WITH A CURTAIN OPENING AND CLOSING and the Credits show all the different characters coming in to ‘take their bows’ like it’s the end of a stage play/musical… it’s so charming!! And it points towards the whole game being staged. Would also explain all the Weird stuff if it’s just a bunch of Miis trying to entertain others!!
As for where the Intermission would be during an actual Miitopia play, I’m putting my two cents on the in between of the Realm of the Fey squad being kidnapped and the Protagonist setting off with the Great Sage to rescue their teammates. Either that or riiight after the plot twist with the Dark Lord/Great Sage. Either one works imo
