depowered homelander really missed flying, so butcher helps him <3
350 words~
Homelander, the only man in the sky. The vast, open air was his only relief; drifting, floating, speeding, free fall— it didn't matter. Up there, he finally felt free. Above the rest, as he was designed. Nobody could touch him in the sky.
Then— A blast of radiated horror. The realisation of no more escape from the walls that surrounded him his entire life, here on earth.
That's what he missed most about his powers, the kind of isolation he chose. No more wind to sweep away his streams of tears, now they were merely puddles, low on the ground, with the dirt.
"I got a surprise for ya."
Out front, a shiny red and blue motorcycle sparkled in the driveway.
Quietly, from those pretty thin lips, "I… You know I don't know how to drive a vehicle, Billy…"
John clung on to Butcher's torso, marking him with his prize winning claw marks. As the road opened up, the engine began revving, and the wind grew stronger, billowing his jacket behind him, like a cape. His heart thrummed in his chest, eyes widening against the expanding horizon. His body was recalling these familiar sensations.
Butcher's rumble of laughter vibrated through his hands.
John's hair began dancing in the wind; it was yellow and bright against the clear, blue sky, exactly where the sun belonged.
A tear welled in the corner of his eye, then ran free after confinement.
Reluctantly releasing his grip, he stretched out his arms, and found himself getting swept away almost instantly, like a bird. He revelled in the way the wind moved between his fingers, how it chilled his skin, how it was the only thing he could hear.
How if he closed his eyes, it felt like he was flying.
Billy watched John in the small mirror to his side; his eyes were squeezed shut, fangs on display, smile lines reaching the sky. Euphoria radiated from him, the noises from his laughter carried away by the wind. And Butcher wished he could hear it, but was content regardless.
He didn't mind sharing him with the wind.
