I have to get a compound...

... and I really don’t want to.

As some may know, I’ve been preparing for my coaching licence - here in Germany it works a little different than in the US I guess. It takes a longer time to get your licence, there are several seminars you have to do in preparation and it’s only offered once a year for a small amount of people.

And just know I found out, that one of the requirements to pass the programm is to be sufficiently capable to handly all three major archery disciplins: Recurve, Barebow and Compound. And by “sufficiently” they mean with each bow we have to shoot a whole indoors tournament (72 arrows at 18 meters, all three in one day) and reach at least 500 points.

Urgh.

I was always under the impression, that to be a good coach you don’t have to be a good archer. I barely manage to reach 500 with my Recurve, which is my own discipline. At least I have a little experience with Barebow, so with a little practice I may manage here as well.

But I’ve never EVER in my entire life shot a single arrow with a compound bow - and since I’m left-handed and have a very small draw length I really simply haven’t had the chance to do it yet.

Now I have to start and save my money once I’m back from Spain and instead of spening it on some quality limbs and arrows I have to go and get a Compound... And arrows, and release, and sight, and all those things I never wanted to own...

Some years ago I was set on to become a teacher one day. It was my dream. But to many things blocked my way - parents, regulations, toxic people that laughed about me, ...

But the day before yesterday I had s very serious conversation with two friends about it, and now I’m thinking that maybe, I should still do it? It’s still kind of my dream - I just gave up believing in it, because I was sure it would never happen anyway now. But now I’m thinking, maybe I just finish my current degree after I’m back from travelling in the fall, but then drop out, use the rest of the academic year to prepare (and hopefully find a job and earn some money, because I most likely won’t get any support from my parents or the goverment anymore) and then just go for it?

But I’m already 26 years old, until then I will be 27... Which means I will be at least in my early thirties until I’m done with uni and then another two years of training... I’m afraid I will be to old to find a job as a teacher then, since a lot of early-to-mid-twenty-year-olds will be apllying for the same jobs as I will.

What do you people think? I’m having a little bit of a crisis right now. I mean I have been in a little bit of a crisis for the last three years or so, but it just keeps getting worse...

just told my parcel should be here christmas eve. 22 days. This took 22 goddamn days even though I paid for express shipping. i get it's christmas so they're probably busy as hell. but. 22 days is a lot fucking longer than 3-6 days.
