The following ia an excerpt taken from correspondence between myself and the buyer (a Canadian historian and educater who likes to use real objects when teaching) and may help explain why selling this dress means so much ❤️🖤❤️
Pardon me as I digress... it helps to give you a sense of my history as well as for the Trudeau Paper Dress. It was always showcased, hanging from the ceiling, along the back wall of our store where the office and drop off for consignment was, getting tonnes of exposure and attention to our fabulous patrons... it always was a great topic of conversation! For decades we were a HUGE seller to the film, stage and television industry, with many wonderful artists like Johnny Depp, Goldie Hawn, Kit Harrington and Courtney Love being clients of ours, along with a European Countess who made her home in Vancouver and the countless others, both young and old, male and female, of us regular, everyday folk who loved quality, unique and amazing clothing.... Oh, the stories this dress could tell you if it could speak!
I wish I could remember what my partner told me about where the dress originated from and how he came to own it. Kenny was much older than me and it was him who founded deLuxe Junk Company in 1973 and made it the big success that it was by the time I came onto the scene in 1996. To me, the dress was always an amazing, regular fixture of the store. Unfortunately, the dress’s early beginnings are lost to me... Kenny passed away in 2008. I inherited and kept the store going until its 40th anniversary in 2013 where I was suddenly forced to close by my landlord who sneakily planned and got rid of me after being in that location for 30 years! to rent out the space for more money to Versace. I blindly put every last scent I had, including everything from our home to keep deLuxe alive, thinking I had an incredible legacy to uphold. With no money to move to a new location at the last second, I lost the home along with everything I knew how to do in order to avoid business bankruptcy and square it all properly away. Afterwards, I had enough to buy a used Grand Jeep Cherokee and travel across Canada for 5 1/2 months (my first vacation in 12 years) to find myself, looking for a spark of life, to restart and move forward. Montreal was that place and eventhough I knew it would be extremely challenging, never being past the SK/MB before, not speaking French, etc., I left all that I knew behind and moved to Montreal in December 2014. By late 2018, I created my new brand Artifacts & Beyond!, found the exact place I needed to live and work with everything I had all in one place and began establishing my new business and start selling online. And that, my friend, is how this Trudeau Paper Dress made its journey to you❣️
