sunny has scrolled through the history of their messages and it’s honestly interesting how they’ve gone from him simply contacting her for her pet sitting services to her asking about his complete box set of the xfiles after one day inside his home and it’s triggered this chain of conversation about alien and area 51 conspiracy stories they’ve read online. she loves texting him just the most random shit and getting randomness back, and the amount of photos that she’s sent him of his pets is extensive. it’s a fairly straightforward and playful friendship, although she does sometimes go on a rant/rage about how he named one of his cats garbage

How quickly my muse responds to your texts:

it depends on the text and the topic, to be honest. the thing though is that bas definitely knows just what to say and how to say to make her instantly reply if he wants her to, and she falls for it every time. like when he jokingly texted her that winston was missing and he needed her help to find him. the punch he got on the arm for that when they met up is the hardest punch she’s ever thrown in her life

How often our muses text:

sporadic but frequent. for every little thing that makes her think of him or something that she thinks he’d enjoy, sunny texts him. she knows that he’s really closer to frankie than he is to her so she doesn’t want to bombard him

How often our muses call:

same as texting. sunny likes calling him when she’s watching something online about aliens or if she’s rewatching x files and pretty much liveblogs at him through it. when sunny is with frankie and she catches the two of them talking on the phone, she shouts insults around the receiver for him (mostly jabs about his height) and cackling. sometimes she calls him and just asks him to leave the phone on the floor so she can call at his cats and hope they answer back (garbage does tbh)

Does my muse purposefully miss calls from yours:

yes. just to piss him off. and also because honestly she’s just terrible at phone calls and doesn’t like talking over it much

You don’t like phone calls. Perhaps, if you chose to examine it and attempt to be philosophical or a psychologist, you could connect it to something that happened in your childhood. Perhaps, if you were that type of person, you would acknowledge it had something to do with your sister and bad news and the sound of the ringing landline with condolences from people you had wished at the time would leave you the fuck alone.

Perhaps.

But phone calls were sometimes necessary. More urgent than texts, apparently, so here you are: pacing around your apartment while talking to Bas on speaker.

Admittedly, the first few members of the Titans you met were talking trees, so perhaps your expectation for Leto was a bit biased towards the hitman being another talking tree. “I don’t fucking know!” Kit yells into the otherwise empty warehouse.  Every time he runs into this man he can’t help the fear, the panic, and the indignation that rushes through his system all at the same time.  

“Why the hell do you think it was me?” he yells, and swings one fist, but it’s caught and in that moment Kit’s blood runs cold and he knows he’s not going home tonight.

Chris wears his boyfriend’s name tag when he goes into work sometimes, picking up the wrong cheerful “Hi my name is...” as he slips out of their shared apartment and down the street to the coffeeshop he works mornings at. There’s a regular who comes in every couple days, always orders something iced even when it’s freezing out and everyone else in the shop is huddled over steaming cups of coffee and tea. 

She’s cute, he thinks, young and lovely and bright. She flirts with Candace and coos over the pictures of his dog and always tips too much. 

The name she gives is always Ruby, and she speaks with a heavy English accent and enough charm that he doesn’t hate making her a sugary death concoction at 9 am.

Piper Barrell – AIT Buddy

Piper was a legacy kid, following a Marine father, big shoes to fill. Her and Marcus had both thrown themselves into training with everything they had and come out with some reputations for being overly gung-ho for their troubles, not that either of them minded when that meant they were one of the best. There could only be one best though, and with two achiever types at it at the same time, Piper brought out Marcus’ competitive side in the best way, but with no anger there – just a healthy rivalry and a lot of shit-talking. Piper’s first deployment was far from front lines, her letters to Marcus made it apparent how mind numbing she found it and how determined she was to get her boots on the ground next to his, and a title rank tacked onto her name. Last time Marcus heard from her, she’d made it off her Chinese base and into the combat zone; her last letters trailed off in the first year after his discharge. Marcus understands it, the army defined Piper’s life from start to finish and he no longer fits into it. Decades from now, he’ll still have an eye out to see if ‘General Barrell’ has become a reality.

Your eyes can’t adjust.

Not right away at least, and for the brief second there isn’t anything except swallowing, black empty, your hands fly out to the side. Luckily, she’s there, and they meet the bottom of a denim jacket. Without hesitation they knot themselves there. The warmth of the hand that covers over yours, as soft and light as it is, does little to bring you comfort and its not until the living room, lit now only by street lights from outside the window, finds a way to help your young, rounded eyes acclimate to it and you see her face that you feel the pit in your stomach soften. She rubs her thumb into the back of your hand, but as willow budded as it is, it’s her smile and the lull in her voice that finally brings you peace.

“Its okay, honey, I’ll pay the electricity in a few days when I get the money. You don’t have to worry.”
