          He’d stayed later than what was normal for him, needing to convince a teacher that you needed an extension on a project because ‘yes I know I should have the report almost done by now but the fall musical took all my time. It’s over now and I’m just asking for a bit of mercy here’ took long enough for most of the students who did not stay for sports to hustle out and empty the halls. Finrod’s shoes squeaked in the empty halls as he walked as quick as possible towards the front doors to get out and home. 

          He was greeted with a mess of papers with the fading sounds of laughter and shouted slurs. Finrod knelt to collect a bundle of the papers, quietly beginning to help the poor kid who’d been caught by a couple of jerks who had decided to make him their target. With as many of the papers as he could find collected, along with a few folders and a notebook that toted a fresh grass stain, Finrod approached the other boy offering a softly sympathetic smile.
