 When I started shipping it if I did:

When I properly got into Twilight. I’d always liked Carlisle even when I wasn’t as into the series as I’m now, and I completely fell in love with Esme after I read her backstory, so naturally the two of them together were a perfect package. ;)

My thoughts:

I’m sure I’ve gone through this a couple of hundred times by now, so I’m gonna keep it short (for real this time lol): cutest couple ever!

What makes me happy about them:

They have such a well-balanced, no drama relationship. They don’t need to be around each other 24/7 to be happy and can disagree with each other without fighting. It’s nice to see a couple like that among all the ‘constantly fighting for great, house smashing makeup sex’ and ‘I cannot live without you, you’re all I’ll ever need’ sort of relationships lol.

What makes me sad about them:

They can’t grow old together or have kids. I’m sure they deal with the pain and disappointment really well and I don’t think either of them is constantly sad and heartbroken about it, but I do think they—especially Esme—have bad days sometimes and like to imagine what could have been.

Things done in fanfic that annoy me:

The ‘mommy and daddy’ trope. The kids aren’t actually kids, so it’s not C/Es’ place to tell them when to come home and whether or not they can stay out all night partying lol. Not even gonna go into corporal punishment, because… ew, no. Other things that annoy me are violent or angry Carlisle and jealous Esme. I don’t think for a moment that Esme would stay with a guy who she found threatening, and Carlisle’s all about that ~zen mindset anyway. I think he’s the sort of guy who’s so calm during fights that you actually wish that he’d raise his voice or something to show his anger. And as for jealous Esme… have you paid any attention to how Carlisle’s love for Esme is described in the books? Esme doesn’t really have any reason to be jealous lol.

Things I look for in fanfic:

My list of criteria only has one item on it, actually: a C/Es centric fic. That’s it. That’s literally how few C/Es fics there are out there lol. But if I need to get a bit more picky then I love those origin stories of how they met and fell in love. It’s hard to find good ones!

Who I’d be comfortable them ending up with, if not each other:

I actually just answered an ask about this, so Tanya for Carlisle. I’m not sure about Esme, though. There aren’t many single dudes in the series that she’d be comfortable with lol. I think that if Carlisle weren’t in the picture but she was still a vampire, she’d eventually end up falling for some lovely human dude or find a vampire who was comfortable with changing his dietary habits. 

My happily ever after for them:

Like, full-on Disney, ‘and then they lived happily ever after’ sort of thing? Carlisle would find a cure, they’d change back to humans, raise a bunch of cute little kiddos and grow old together surrounded by their kids and grandkids. I think that would be the dream for both of them.

Who is the big spoon/little spoon:

Carlisle’s the big spoon and Esme’s the little spoon. They like to change it up sometimes, though.

What is their favorite non-sexual activity:

I think they’re the type of people who just like to be around each other. With Carlisle’s crazy schedule they probably don’t always get all that much private time together, so I think they just like to hang around, maybe cuddle and talk about their day or what books they’ve just read or that lovely painting that was just showcased in that gallery in that place. When they actually want to do something, I think they like to go see a play or visit an art opening or something.

I have nothing to add. This is purely a personal preference (and probably one that doesn’t surprise anyone who’s been following me for more than two weeks lol), but I absolutely find Carlisle and Esme’s story to be the most interesting one out of all the love stories in the series! They’re such an endearing couple, and the story of how they met and fell in love is beautiful.
