Echo beamed with delight as Specs' arms wrapped around him and spun him about. Being a middle now meant that technically he didn't have to sell with a big, as long as he stuck with another middle. Of course for Echo, it was always easiest for him to stick with someone, so they could help him with the headlines, rather than him struggling and repeating the same thing all day. So today, he and Buttons had gone off together, the two best friends sprinting off from the distribution window hand in hand.
And they had done really well! Maybe it was because the two of them together without a big looked more pitiful, or maybe they'd just gotten lucky. Echo wriggled a little to dig into his pocket and pull out the whole dime a lady had given him. She'd given Buttons one too. The two of them had spent a whole ten minutes just staring wide eyed before they'd gone back to hawking. The prospect of food is a good one though, and the boy nods his head eagerly, almost dislodging his cap.

Lyra lifts the paper cup to her lips again, eyes flitting back to the woman with platinum hair. Hm. An unexpected development. Her mouth quirks. How intriguing.
She is dressed entirely in black, wrapped in it, cloaked in it. Someone who does not want to attract undue attention. Someone who wants to disappear.
Well. She can relate to one of those, at least.
This sort doesn’t miss much. Best to meet her head-on, show her hand directly. A hand, in any case.
Making up her mind, she pushes her hair behind her shoulders, straightens her back, and strides across the room.
