Scavenging// Corbin & Clayton
@call-corbin
[It was oddly mild and he could feel it in the breeze that was whispering through the down at the back of his neck.
He couldn’t say he enjoyed scavenging, but then again, he couldn’t confidently say he enjoyed anything that demanded attention that wasn’t on his own specific terms. But things could be worse. They could have been much worse. Today he had company, decent company, that would hopefully make the whole thing all the more bearable.
He was waiting, unusually early, for Corbin to show. He was perched on the edge of a wall, picking mindlessly at a thread that was coming away from a DIY incision he’d made just above his knee; one that he’d made months back in an attempt to jazz up a pair of jeans he’d salvaged from someone else.
He was still pulling at the thread when he heard the soft crunch of shoe against grave. That’s when he glanced up, offered the other a small smile and with energy he didn’t know he had, pushed himself from the wall to his feet in a way that was almost spritely] Morning, morning. As ready for the fun day ahead as I am? [he shrugged his back pack up, thread his arm through the other strap] Don’t worry I packed a picnic.
PERSONALLY:
Rachel Berry is a 24-year-old actress & NYADA student, living in New York, New York. She’s dating Jesse St. James, and hopes to someday win a Tony.
PREVIOUSLY:
Rachel Berry has achieved so much, and so many of her dreams - she’s starred on stage and on screen, lived with her best friends in the city of her heart, and given back to the Glee Club that made her who she is, which went on to win the 2015 National Show Choir Championships under her deft tutelage. Her dads also got divorced and sold her childhood house, she dated Sam, one of her oldest friends, and then…well, and then Jesse, who helped her realize that while the offer to be back on stage was tempting, she needed to go back to NYADA first. Since then Rachel has devoted herself to getting back on track with her studies at NYADA as well as making time to invest in a relationship that bloomed when she had least expected it.
Auditioning for another show took a long while, and a lot of encouragement from those she surrounds herself with. Afraid she would lose her drive for the art again, Rachel waited not-so-patiently for the perfect role. When she caught sound that West Side Story was making it’s revival, she had to at least audition. She had landed the role of Maria’s understudy as well as a role in the chorus, which made it easy for her to ease her way back in with baby steps.
After graduation, Rachel took a short break from Broadway, returning to the Spotlight Diner in order to keep enough money coming in to afford her rent, but giving her enough time to really consider what she wanted to do with her future. Broadway had always been a lifelong dream, and she had, had the opportunity to make it happen so young that she decided she needed a new dream. A new something to push for. She had tried television once (a massive flop), but perhaps a small role in a television show that didn’t have her name all over it wouldn’t be the worst thing to give a try? Rachel threw herself into auditions, landing a few small, 3-4 episode roles but she was enjoying it nonetheless. Every day was a different script, and not knowing what was coming next was rather exciting.
PRESENTLY:
Now, after a lot of experimenting and dabbling in various shows, Rachel landed a role with a contract for at least 3 seasons. It wasn’t a lead role, but she would be in every episode and Rachel is thrilled to bring a new, never before seen, character to life.
POTENTIALLY:
Broadway will never be off the cards for Rachel, but she would love to shoot a movie, or play a lead role in television directed by some of the greats. She’d love to collaborate with Jesse somehow one day, but the project would have to be right for both of their careers. Rachel plans to have children one day, but she still has a lot she wants to achieve first, starting with a Tony.

PERSONALLY:
Kurt Hummel is a 25-year-old Off-Broadway actor, living in Manhattan, New York. He’s married to Blaine Anderson, and hopes to someday be a Tony Award-winning Broadway star.
PREVIOUSLY:
2015 was a big year for Kurt Hummel. He got married - finally - to the only man he’s ever truly loved, he successfully led a bunch of hyper-talented high-schoolers to a National Show Choir Championship victory, and he helped the school that had been a prison for him become a safe haven for artistically minded students. Even just a few years prior, Kurt hadn’t thought even one of those things would ever be possible, let alone all three - but here he is, thriving.
After returning to New York with the New Directions safely in the hands of Sam Evans, Kurt finished his undergrad at NYADA, proving once and for all that obstacles are just fuel for his ambition. In his final semester of his senior year, Kurt auditioned for and - incredibly - won a role in the cult ‘classic’, The Golden Apple, which, Kurt would tell anyone who listened, was the first Off-Broadway musical to transfer to Broadway - nevermind that it immediately flopped upon its arrival. Encores! put on the performance, with only ten days of rehearsal for a four-day run of the cultiest cult show of Broadway, and Kurt lived for it. While no great lover of the classics on which it was based, Kurt found himself living in the musical world. He read all of the Iliad and the Odyssey and stayed on top of his schoolwork, and fully embraced the campy, over-the-top aesthetic. They were the NYT Critic’s Pick, and that didn’t mean nothing.
After graduation, Kurt auditioned, somewhat on a wim, for Natasha, Pierre & the Great Comet of 1812. It was exactly the sort of musical that Kurt would have died to see, replete with hyper-talented newcomers to Broadway (much like himself), puck-rock imagery and religious irreverence, so he thought why not? With low expectations, no pressure and a low chance of success, a successful performance and a rock-solid education behind him, he got it. Just a role in the chorus, but he got it. He was on Broadway, for real this time! For longer than four days, for real. It was a dream come true. He wasn’t one of the primaries, no, but he was on a Broadway stage, and that was more than enough for him. It kept him busy - wore him out, actually - but it was like he’d finally come alive; like everything he’d been through and everything he’d worked for finally had a reason. Like he had a reason.
It was just a role in the chorus, but it sparked his career, as twelve-time Tony Award-nominated shows are wont to do, even for those not specific to the nomination area. He remained in the chorus for its entire run, just under a year, and after that, it was a whirlwind. He moved from Comet to Anastasia, again as a chorus member, though this time with the added pressure of being a swing for a couple of named roles. He worked on a few workshops, a few screen tests, and kept auditioning throughout his tenure on both shows, refusing to ever for a moment get complacent or rest on his not-nearly-shiny-enough laurels.
PRESENTLY:
Now, finally, his hard work took him to Jersey Boys, where he’s currently starring as none other than Frankie Valli, his naturally wide, higher-leaning range earning him the part when the actor from the touring cast decided not to keep the role. It’s off-Broadway, but he’s still playing a character with an actual name, which is a huge step up - and not just a name, but the name, the eponymous character. It’s weird, being the It’s more than he ever expected - Kurt privately considers his getting this role as a middle finger to everyone who thought he couldn’t pull off ‘leading man’. Really, though, aside from the baggage, he loves the whole aesthetic: the glittery red suits really do something for him, what can he say?
POTENTIALLY:
Professionally, Kurt wants to keep on his upward trajectory going. He hopes to originate a musical or play, he wants to lead a role on Broadway, he wants to win a Tony, be part of a touring cast, maybe help out with screenwriting or directing - maybe jump to TV or the silver screen someday, who knows. He’s still interested in fashion; he and Isabel still keep in contact, so that’s not something he’s completely given up, either, and he’s not writing the possibility of getting into that career later, either, though the idea of cutting his teeth in not one but two highly competitive creative industries makes him a little queasy.
Personally, Kurt’s happy romantically and socially, for the first time in his life, but...well, he hasn’t quite worked up the courage to say it out loud yet, but Kurt’s been thinking about himself and Blaine as fathers. He’s terrified, of course, and he knows that he hasn’t even figured out how to be the perfect husband yet, but...well, he thinks they’d be pretty good at it. He’s not sure if he’d want to go to the artificial insemination or surrogate route, since he thinks it would be incredible to have something half-his or half-Blaine’s, or the adoption route, since there are so many unloved children in the world, but...he knows, deep in his heart, that he and Blaine are meant to be parents. He just doesn’t know when or how to make that happen yet - but he knows there’s nothing he and Blaine can’t do.

PERSONALLY:
Ryder Lynn is a 21-year-old manager of Midtown Comics, living New York, New York. He’s single, and hopes to someday open his own comic book store.
PREVIOUSLY:
The disbanding of the New Directions and the forced removal from McKinley had to have been one of the worst things to happen to Ryder during his young life, even to this day he still credits it as being truly awful. He had come to a new school, went through a whole year of ups and downs and a lot of discovering who he was, the kind of man he wanted to be, along with making genuine friends that he wouldn’t trade for the world. To being the new kid again, all alone and trying to fit in in a new school that Sue had specifically picked out for him. It was ridiculous, crazy and he’d tried to point out to his parents how ridiculous the whole thing was, but with Sue’s referral also came a list of all the things this new school had that McKinley was lacking and Ryder’s father continued to encourage his son to follow a football career and to try and land a scholarship, so the argument was pretty one sided.
Now, it wasn’t all bad. Sure he missed McKinley and his friends terribly, but the new school did have a great football program as well as a tutor he could work one on one with to continue his reading and writing. But, Ryder never really made friends and bonds like he did at McKinley, he mostly did his time, tried his best and was beyond proud to walk across that stage and get a diploma.
Though the football program was great, Ryder was never offered a scholarship, which suited him just fine if he was being honest. After all, he’d never thought a secondary education was for him, school was difficult enough the first time around and he knew he wasn’t bright enough to work in some big wig office job, or be a doctor or anything. Much to his father’s disappointment he decided to work straight out of High School, getting mechanic jobs and building a name for himself.
His mother was the one who encouraged him to explore what he could of the world, to maybe try and reach out to some of his old New Directions buddies, see where they all ended up. So once he had saved enough Ryder ended up travelling around for a few months and ended up in New York. Sure it was cliche, but he knew if he was going to run into anyone from the glee club days, chances were high they’d be there. After all, everyone wanted to get out of Lima right?
PRESENTLY:
His visit to the big apple turned into a longer stay and now a permanent one. He’d started getting a job at Midtown Comics in Times Square and was truly living his best life there. Now he’s worked his way up to being the manager of that specific location. He knows it’s not the most impressive and a lot of people may look down on him for it, but he’s got a roof over his head, a job he loves and truly he’s having the best time just being himself.
POTENTIALLY:
Though he knows he doesn’t have the schooling for it, Ryder would like to one day be able to open his own comics and collectibles shop, but for now he’s happy being a manager. He’s still wide eyed and hopeful in terms of looking for love but he knows he won’t just settle for casual dating and if he finds the right girl, he’ll know. Though there is always a part of him that’s attached to the one who got away.
