There was a park bench that Riley had come to favor during his time here in Boston, far enough from the road that the traffic sounds were muffled, distant. It was there he sat, waiting for his friend to arrive, a bit anxiously. He still had Beth's words clear in his mind, Lucas's brief explanations, and with those along came questions of his own. How many people did he know that were living like him? With whole lives in secrecy? How many had magic in them, how many turned forms on full moons and held within them a taste for blood?

The text message he'd sent Cian had been rather plain, the offer of a walk in the park, time spent out of the house and in the company of another. Riley had a particular topic in mind, though he hadn't mentioned it yet to his friend. There was an incident that seemed to stick out to Riley now, where before it had faded into a long line of coincidences that he would have overlooked. He knew better than to overlook things now, though. He stared down at his phone, checking again to make sure he hadn't missed any messages before heaving a small sigh, and hunching his shoulders against the cold.
