“What just happened?” Wanda breathed, watching the rift swallow up Maria and her companion in shock. She hadn’t thought anyone was going to make it through, and certainly not so quickly. It felt anti-climatic to see it over with. She turned to the person closest to her, eyes still wide with surprise. “I don’t think this was such a good idea. I hope they know what they are doing. That may have been our one chance.”

Lorna: It just fell asleep and started going down for a minute. A lot of people were crying, I just finished my muffin.

“Lorna, hey. Do you want to sit down?” Funny that Lorna should appear now, right as she’d been texting Nadir. Alexandra put her phone down and moved the book bag that sat on the coffee table to beside her chair, offering the spare seat to the older woman.  “How are you?”

It was difficult to explain or to answer at all. She didn’t know how much Raliegh or Ajax had told Lorna of what she’d done. She didn’t know what Lorna wanted to hear. There was just too much happening in her head. 

“Nothing,” she replied. Liar. The knife wounds she’d gotten in the fight and the grazes on her knuckles, both cleaned by Ajax, stung as if in reminder. They tried to take me back. They wanted me to go back there, to be their weapon again. And I was. But the words are stuck, blocked by languages, blocked by the growling of that weapon side of her that felt more prominent than it had in months.
