“Heads up!” Lorna sent a projectile flying towards the pumpkin that had seemingly been about to attempt to jump Ric from behind. Unfortunately, not the weirdest thing she’d seen tonight. The pumpkin was knocked back, being hit with enough force to knock someone out apparently wasn’t the end of these suckers, because this one got back up, dented head and all. Thankfully, Erik had been showing her ways to manipulate metal further. The second hit was less blunt force, and more slicing the pumpkin in half. “We can’t just have one holiday, can we?”

Apparently not, because the pumpkin, it turned out, wasn’t alone. Lorna couldn’t help the laugh as more spooky decorations lunged towards them.

Gabby paused the video game, whirling around to look up at Ric from where she sat on the floor. “What kind of weird-ie?” she asked. “Like, ate something weird-ie, need a nap weird-ie, or like... brain weird weird-ie?” She looked him over with concern, narrowing her eyes slightly. “What’s up?”

Wanda looked around and nodded. “That tends to happen. Can’t tell if it’s normal or if I’m just a magnet for trouble.” She stepped up to Ric, offering her hand out to him. “Need a hand?”

“Good.” Malice didn’t try to hide that she wasn’t Lorna any more. She stepped towards Ric, toying with his emotions as she did. All that anger, that fear and self loathing. Lorna’s memories were hers now, and she knew all about Julio Richter. So much pain for her to take. So easily stirred up. “I’m afraid Lorna isn’t going to be of any help to you with that.”

“Ric...” Lorna’s memories of Malice’s control were fuzzy at best. Earlier than she had even realised, having assumed at first she was just stressed. But she knows Malice encountered Ric. And she remembered speaking to him before Malice took control too. Saying things she wished she could take back. “I’m sorry. You have to know that.” Was she going to lose him over this? Lorna hated the thought, hated that someone else had had control of her and hurt the people she loved. “I’m so sorry.”

Lorna groaned and put her head in her hands. “That’s what I’m telling you, Ric! It wasn’t an accident!” She knew what it looked like, that she was finding patterns where they didn’t exist or finding fault where it didn’t belong. But Lorna was certain that something had changed. Ever since she woke up, something had been wrong. Beyond the obvious, something was different. Like that familiar cloud that liked to hang around her at times had solidified. Or become contagious. 

“I’m telling you, if it happened once maybe that’s an accident. But it keeps happening. It’s like when I’m around people they get angry and when it happens I...” She stopped. She hadn’t admitted this to anyone, not even herself until the words had nearly fallen out of her mouth. “I feel stronger when they do.”
