It was almost like drowning.
Falling deeper and deeper into the water, darkness surrounding her, stealing her breath, her thoughts, her everything. She could only stand there and watch it all drift away like bubbles. Floating out of reach, floating into darkness and inevitably disappearing out of sight, out of mind.
When she can breathe again, she’s disoriented, fresh. The girl sucked in air as if she’d never tasted it before, and the echoing call of her name forced her to attention.
Wide gold eyes meet darkened amber, an eclipse hidden in the eyes of her king. She can’t help but stare in awe at his magnificence as he cups her cheek fondly, looking her over in concern.
“You had me worried, how do you feel? Admittedly I haven’t done that procedure before and it’s all experimental, but I mean, I survived it and given how strong you are... Warden Commander, I was certain you’d be fine, and look at you! My perfect little darkling princess.
The princess stared blankly for a long moment, before being startled out of her reverie by the call of a newcomer...
The princess startles from her dream, sitting up from a bed of cushion and silk, curtains. Was it coincidence or a recurring dream at this point? She wasn’t certain, but Papa had told her not to worry about it when she mentioned it. Dreams and Nightmares are harmless when you sleep, it’s when he made them real they were a concern. But not to her, never to her.
Slipping past the silken curtains, she slipped on a clean dress and shooed the fearlings away halfheartedly as they tried to fix her hair. “H-hey now, gentle, no tugging,” she giggled, petting down her dress and making her way to the kitchen, where two cups of freshly brewed tea had been made, one of which was being sipped gracefully by her father, who looked up from his book in greeting.
“Sleep well?” he smiled, gentle.
