Escaping Detection ʄ Dorcas & Caradoc
Caradoc rubbed his chin lightly, trying to get used to the sensation of being completely clean shaven. Polyjuice was such a interesting potion - it changed literally everything about your appearance. If he was more academically inclined, he'd look into how that happened but for now he was happy with just using it to protect their identities. The smooth chin would take some getting used to, however.
He glanced at the woman next to him and thought they'd chosen their disguises well - they could almost be siblings. The less conspicuous, the better. He was on edge, every nerve on high alert, as if prepping for a fight or flight situation. That wasn't the nature of their mission at all, but his previous activities in the Order had him doubting both his capabilities and the likelihood that things would stay calm. "Watch," Dumbledore had said, "Just gather information. Stay outside, talk to no one, and don't ask questions." That seemed to be the mantra of the Order lately - 'Don't ask questions.' Caradoc understood the need for a control of information, the danger that leaks or tortured information could cause. But recently he was beginning to doubt that Dumbledore had a real plan for this war, and every day they seemed to fall more and more behind. People missing, bodies disappearing, and mission failure after failure. He was determined to not follow that line here.
Which didn't mean he had any idea what they were doing. The Department of Mysteries was an enigma, one that Caradoc had rarely pondered until now. Stationed outside at random hours, watching doors and attempting to memorize every face that came and went, he wanted nothing more than to know what exactly they were doing here. It was incredibly frustrating, and yet he knew what he had signed up for when he agreed to fight for the Order. And so he kept his thoughts to himself. Or at least, he tried.
He murmured his words to his companion softly so as not to draw any attention. "Six hours today, correct?"
