The biting cold wasn’t near as painful as it should have been. It was a welcoming cold. A reminder that family only grew closer and closer. A reminder that she had finally escaped the burns of the south. Her chest filled with heated breath as they reached the gates of Castle Black. It was a sight. Not triumphant like King’s Landing or intimidating like the Eyrie, but a humbled sanctuary. A smile teased the edges of her lips as permission to enter was granted and her horse lead her into this new sanctuary.
With a final sense of security setting in as the gates closed behind them, Sansa pushed back her dark hood and took in the cold crisp air. Eyes scanned the unfamiliar sea of faces to find the one outlier. Sansa’s smile begun to sink with each passing man. Where was Jon?

“You should take father’s room. You deserve it. Stark name or not.” This was the pure truth. Jon had worked tooth and nail to regain their home and reclaim the north. It should not go unrewarded. “Besides, I wouldn’t want to sleep there after the nights I’ve faced.” Another truth, but drenched distaste.

“Aella!!!” Jon zips into the room, landing on the floor roughly and beaming at her. “I know it’s a day early, but Happy Birthday!” He hands her a poorly wrapped box. “Your mom said you would like it.”

“What’s gotten into your mind?” Robb asked when he finally found Jon. “Father tells me you want to leave for the wall.”
He didn’t UNDERSTAND. Why would Jon want to take the black? If he didn’t know better, he’d think his father was playing a joke on him. For all he knew, people going to the wall were thieves, murderers, rapists... A place used as a PUNISHMENT for criminals. So when he heard that his brother wanted to spent the rest of his days there, he couldn’t help but wonder WHY.
