Nyheter från utgrävningen vid Tråsättra. kol-14 dateringarna från i höstas har kommit tillbaka och dom visar sig stämma med de dateringar som gjordes vid förundersökningen.

News from the excavations at Tråsättra. The C-14 tests that we sent in last autumn are back and they show the same dates as those previously made during the preliminary excavation.

Another deadline passes

I keep losing trust in this parliamentary system. I can’t continue to expect they’ll take care of me when they don’t even take care of the vulnerable populations in our country. There are so many who as a country we’ve failed: Aboriginal People, women, people of colour, and today we add another to the list -  those with a terminal illness.

The Supreme Court of Canada ruled, one year and four days ago, that “The prohibition on physician-assisted dying infringes the right to life, liberty and security of the person in a manner that is not in accordance with the principles of fundamental justice.“

This seems quite clear cut - a year was given by the court to our government to provide a bill that would accommodate these provisions. Today that deadline has passed and the only thing we have to show for it is Bill C-14 stuck in the parliamentary process. That’s not the worst part though, the worst is that the bill is shit. It doesn’t even include all the recommendations that the government-appointed group to investigate and craft conditions for the bill suggested.

The woman whose case was examined, and the ruling crafted upon, wouldn’t even be able to receive the right to die under C-14 currently. Clearly something, someone, somewhere fucked this up. It shouldn’t pass, but also this bill shouldn’t exist. Our government should’ve done more, Our government let us down once again, Our government failed in a place where it could’ve shown great bravery and courage. I’m losing trust in this parliamentary system. I’m losing faith. I’m losing respect.

I don’t have any more words. I’m pissed. And I’m so sorry for all that we failed.

And a final fuck you to all those MPs who decided to vote without referring back to their own constituency - this is bigger than your own morality. You have a responsibility as a representative of the people to actually represent the people. Sometimes that means making tough decisions, but that’s part of the job, and you should’ve accepted that when we accepted you as our MP.
