Location: Woods outside of refugee camp
CW: animal death? idk man shes hunting
Keeva had been looking for some trace of prey for nearly an hour. The deer were staying further and further away from camp, the smells of humanity and traffic pushing them deeper into the forest. She had switched to only hunting after dark, as much as Avi’s words had upset her, she knew he was right. She needed to be careful and the dark was a familiar friend. She was extra cautious this evening, she had heard wolves earlier and while she didn’t think they would be foolish enough to attack her, she didn’t want a run in if she could avoid it.
When she finally did end up picking up a scent, the trail led her further into the woods away from camp. This is probably further than I should be but… Food was still scarce and this being the first deer she had tracked in a while, she wasn’t willing to let it get away. She caught up to the creature silently, grazing in between the trees and she didn’t hesitate to make her move. She would avoid a chase if she could manage it, she knew she was fast enough to chase it down but the sooner she fell the deer the sooner she could return to camp.
The kill was quick as she moved through shadow, dropping onto its back and throwing her weight to the side. The deer bleated in fear as the dragon’s momentum caused it to collapse to the side, and Keeva dug her claws into its neck to silence it. As the doe shuddered its last breath beneath her she heard a noise that didn’t fit in with the slow shifting of the trees in the wind. Her head snapped up, searching the nearby underbrush, becoming more alarmed as the smell of wolf and… something she couldn’t identify reached her. She stood up over the deer, ready to defend her kill.
