Doood hi im new. your blog is like on fleek xD and i see you like ssb, so my question is. How do you git good? like, any tips for us noobs? And whats one mistake you see newer players do. (Unless your not new but youve got skillz)
It's all about reading your opponent and looking for openings.
Combos often persist of 2-4 quick moves that you can guaranteed hit or almost always hit. Work on memorizing and developing those for each character you play, and learn how to read them from opponents.
For instance, Samus can run-attack to up-B and it'll always connect. Many characters can grab, down throw, and then jump into the air to follow up with a neutral or up air. Opponent's guarding a lot? Grab em. Do they roll as soon as you run-attack or grab? Run past and THEN attack when they come out of the roll. Did they try to smash and miss you? Follow up with a tilt attack or grab while you have an opening, or even your own smash if it's fast for your character. Are they rolling around you and do you have a low-sweep down smash? Sweep after rolling and you'll likely hit them. Don't try to go for a smash attack unless you KNOW you've got an opening, because a smash will leave you open yourself. Same goes for grabs but those only have a delay right after they miss, whereas smash attacks have a delay right before they hit. Also, learn what types of moves counter which. Jabs often will interrupt rolls and smash attacks, but rarely will stop charges. Tilts aren't as fast so they can't interrupt as easily, but they're generally pretty safe to use.
The biggest mistakes I see are new players continually trying the same approach even after the opponent has figured it out. Like I remember a Megaman I fought would constantly shoot 3 times, jump, and back-air. It was a reliable combo due to the jab's stun, but once I figured out what he was doing it was no sweat to shield through it and counterattack. He kept trying it even after I was dancing around it.
And don't do cheese strategies either. They'll bite you in the ass against anyone who knows what you're doing. (E.g., spamming trees or Lloids as Villager, or literally EVERYTHING about Lil Mac. Don't play Mac. He's cheese.)
