"Momma... Things aren't okay..." That scene absolutely obliterated me, so I had to (messily) sketch it ;-;
I know it’s not feasible and there are too many dangerous secrets hidden away in it but the visual of Caleb tinkering around with the HFB in Yussa’s tower but instead of Fjord going to third-wheel BeauYasha again in there, Caleb just chucks it in the direction of a newly arrived Trent Ikithon and the last thing he hears before vanishing is Beau declaring with a grin “Have fun in the Archmage’s Bane” is just objectively funny to me
hahah remember last time one of sam’s characters promised their family they wouldn’t die?
remember how well that went
Okay, but Caleb, whose formative magic education was administered via abuse, offering to teach a young boy magic? When he still thinks he can't trust who he is and who he will become? Caleb has HOPE in the future, even just a little, even if he primarily thinks they're all doomed, and now I'm emotionally compromised.
oH FUCK OH FUCK OH FUCK. DOUBLE COUNTERSPELL, DOUBLE NATURAL TWENTIES
TEAM FIRESTORM ARE OUT OF THE BUILDING I REPEAT TEAM FIRESTORM ARE OUT! NO ONE IS DEAD. THANK GODS
Um, excuse me, Mr. Mercer, sir? We already hate Trent Ikithon enough, you really don't need to have him kill Essek for that, mkay?
I don't know a lot about how these things work, but if the Brenattos and Marion haven't attuned to the necklaces, isn't all of the running for naught? Trent can follow them basically anywhere. This is like that mark Lucien put on Fjord all over again.
Also, secondary to all this (but it is causing me distress), maybe somebody should've warned Essek? I know he's primed for pursuit from the Empire and the Dynasty, but, uh, a heads up would probably be nice?
