NEW YEAR’S EVE GALA | 31ST DECEMBER 1997

Riley arrives in a very bold outfit, an open black satin suit with little silver details, no shirt underneath. If one half of the couple needs to be almost completely covered, down to the points of their fingers, Riley decides that he wants to do the exact opposite.

He decided to leave loyalties aside and just have fun, he figures that just this once he deserves to do that and he won’t let anyone ruin their night, not the omegas or the xavier institute students, just for that night he hopes that everyone will be able to ignore what separates them and just pretend that all is fine and if that proves to be a difficult task he is sure that a couple of drinks, a bit of dancing and friendly conversation will help.

NEW YEAR’S EVE GALA || 12.31.97

For the Institute gala, Santiago opts for a classic simplicity that allows his girls to steal the show. His color scheme matches Jackie’s where Cyra’s is modeled to go with Tammy, black and gold being much easier to pull from Santi’s closet than myriad colors. The one piece of artistic input he provided was picking Jackie’s jewelry from Cyra’s vast collection -- a velvet ribbon necklace, with a shiny gold souvenir coin pendant.

As is often the case for flashy parties they attend, Santi shaves his beard for the occasion. His wife will spend most of the evening mourning the loss.

NEW YEAR’S EVE GALA || 12.31.97

Milo will be attending the NYE gala with a fifty-fifty mix of excitement and nerves; he’s excited about what the event stands for ( and because he’s never been to anything so fancy in his life ), but obviously nervous should anything go as horribly wrong as the Halloween street fair. He’ll be largely glued to Laurel’s side for this reason, though he does feel a lot safer with the event being held on school grounds.

His suit is plain and a little cheap, but at least it’s well-tailored and fits him nicely. His boots are definitely on the casual side for such an event, but they’re the nicest footwear he owns, okay. At least he’s not in his Vans!

elizabeth ‘betty’ duke is attending the new year’s gala!

when charles revealed the xavier school’s true purpose, elizabeth had to stop herself mid-dial to cecily to check on her. some would argue with her past in relation to the institute and certain people there that betty should stay far away from this party. however, she can’t stay away. she’s an executive at the brotherhood and needs to gather intel. at least, that’s the reason she presents. in reality, she longs for a glimpse of her daughter. her goal in joining the brotherhood was to protect her and antonio, but with the target charles has just placed on every students’ back, she has to know they’re safe. 

she wears a dress she buried deep in her closet--a sequined red dress that she’s sure antonio will recognize, even with her face covered by a red flower mask with butterflies resting a top it all. but they can recognize each other blindfolded, can’t they? even after all this time. she accessorizes with earrings and a light red wrap around her dress. lastly, she wears a piece of jewelry that’s apart of her daily wardrobe: a chain necklace from which her wedding ring hangs.

New Year’s Eve Gala; early evening

"Oh!” Cyra exclaims as her elbow comes into contact with fabric instead of the empty space that she’d been expecting. She quickly turns to see what- or, rather, who- she’s nudged. “I’m so sorry about that. I didn’t see you there!”

yazmín navarro montes is happily attending the new year’s eve gala! 

the second yaz hears news of a gala she begins planning her look, giddy for a night off as well as an excuse to dress up. han-byul and wesley generously offer to take yaz shopping for a dress, and they make a day of her trying on different ones until she finds the perfect dress. a ballgown that sparkles with every step she takes, and makes her feel like a princess the entire night. a few days before, she’s feeling impulsive, and decides to chop off a large chunk of her hair and debuts the new style at the gala. 

she’s thrilled to be at the gala, as well as helping with a few decorations. one of which won’t be revealed til midnight, and has involved quite a bit of practice on her part. but she knows it’s going to be worth it when she sees everyone’s faces once it happens.

TAKEN AT THE GALA: JANUARY ST. JAMES.

Fashionably late and floating down as if she was Glinda herself, January arrives to the delight or even ire of some of the participants here. A pleated white designer dress with its purse to match, though she really has no need of it, she comes and joins the Xavier gala, as she loves an opportunity to mix both business and pleasure. She comes by, hobnobbing with important individuals, gathering contracts and information as the day grows long. Her face is framed with an elegant mask, allowing it to frame her face well, and still show off her make-up. A flute of champagne in her hand that never seems to go dry, she walks off and surveys the Institute and its inhabitants, enjoying what the night might bring.

The most important part of the night for her, however, will be the appearance of her close contacts and associates, one with an ash white face, seeing as they need to plan the next steps of what they need to do against Essex and its ilk.

nia thopawit is attending the new year’s eve gala!

nia can never resist a party, mostly because people never keep track of their purses and wallets after a few drinks. they’re easy marks, plus she usually gets a free meal and drinks. of course, this gala is slightly different, considering it’s enemy territory. as much as she’d love to relieve a few people of their belongings, she knows drawing too much attention to herself could end...nightmarishly. but she won’t be bored since she’s attending alongside shota and daichi. whether it’s trying not to laugh at shota’s attempts to cause drama or giving daichi what little advice she can in ‘seducing’ their boss, she’ll have fun. most importantly, she’ll be distracted. 

if she’s distracted, she won’t see them. 

she spends an exorbitant amount on a dress because her job allows it, as well as a pearl necklace with red jewels dripping down as if it’s blood. her mask is more of a veil that sets off her half black and half white hair nicely, and black and white gloves to tie the entire look together. this will be her first party in new york, and she hopes it’ll be a memorable one.
