Beau and Caleb talking about the Empire & Cerberus Assembly being “bullshitty” and being the Empire Kids of the group

Beau: “I don’t know, look at this. Look at how much money is up here compared to elsewhere. This is a lot of control”

Caleb: “yeah. What are you going to do about it?”

This moment I completely forgot about is probably the moment that started the Empire Kids(/Empire Siblings) i think, cause it’s the first time they refer to themselves as Empire Kids and their attitudes towards it

Beau at this point has said more than once how critical she is of the Empire and how unfair she think it is

Caleb has already dodged more than once his opinion of it when asked, cause he specifically knows from “inside” how currupt and unfair it is, but especially how dangerous they are, and also he hasn’t really smiled or laughed or made jokes about much up until this point,

But here he sarcastically smile cause he knows critiquing the empire and saying how shitty it is and the notion of going against it is practically impossible and will only most likely get you killed or locked away forever

And it’s an even better scene with foresight, cause caleb is challenging the notion beau or anyone could change it, but they and the Nein and the Cobalt Soul in the future will actually change it, will end(most part) of a war against the Dynasty, will lock away (even if just for some time) some of the most powerful wizards of the Assembly, will prevent a calamity sized danger from ever coming to this plane, will work tiredly day in and out to root out corruption and teach the new generation to question those in power and the ramifications of their own power

They will do something about it :,)

Fjord might be "cool" in the scene with Nott and Molly but no one is cooler than Travis Willingham dropping that "No, I did my own dental work" line and breezing right on past it like it was nothing

So far Jester has drawn inappropriate things in Calebs books, called him dashing and beautiful on multiple occasions and bought him a smut novel.

She's so unhinged, what a dynamic.

AUGH god, the conversation between Nott and Fjord (and Molly) where Nott is trying to explain why she needs Fjord's letter for Caleb, because she needs Caleb to 'be strong enough to change her' AND FJORD IMMEDIATELY SAYS HE UNDERSTANDS!!!!

He's an outcast, he's a half- person, he thinks he's untrusted and ugly, he's lost his sense of self, he has no identity, he's pretening to be someone he's not, and SHE IS EXACTLY THE SAME AS HIM !!!!!!!!!! And he thinks that with his whole heart, and uses his experience to comfort her, because OF COURSE he can relate to wanting to be something, someone different... fuck.

Caleb: "Yeah, we're in the mood for some bear claws, the kind they have in Nicodranas. Have you heard of these? Do you have them?"

Me in my Weird Al impression: "Wait a minute, I'll go check."

Fjord: Yeah, that would be--

Molly: Yes, please clean it. Please.

Pumat: All right.

Fjord: It's not that bad. You don't have to act like it--

Molly (canonically smells of patchouli, nag champa, and a faint trace of horse dung): It was starting to-- it has a brine.

Just wrapped up the Knights of Requital mini arc (so Ep 9: Steam and Conversation - Ep 12: Midnight Espionage). Hoping to keep blitzing and be caught up by episode 17 because it’s one of my favs, but in the meantime some thoughts on this chunk of episodes:

- The early episodes of C2, especially here in Zadash, did such a good job of laying a solid groundwork for everything to come. The players got the time to do some low stakes stuff so they had time to get to know each other, Zadash was a great location for really getting the flavor and ongoing conflicts of the empire, plenty of foreshadowing, and there was enough breathing room for the group to figure out who they were and wanted to be. I know plenty of campaigns start off with an inciting incident that immediately kicks off a plot and it works fine, but I’m a big fan of these slower starts that really let things simmer.

- The Mighty Nein really were just constantly needling at each other over everything, and this is meant in a complimentary way. Between Fjord clearly trying to scope out who was trustworthy, Beau’s nosiness, and Jester and Nott’s general lack of filter, the characters were constantly playing bumper cars against all each others’ secrets and backstory-influenced behaviors and quirks, and it’s so fun on a rewatch watching them violently stomp on each others’ rakes. Even something like Caleb’s commitment to being grubby, which could have easily just been passed over for character flavor or being eccentric didn’t slip past Beau.

- Ive said this many times, but the early C2 vibes were just so good. I’m not sure what particular sauce Matt was cooking with for this one, everything was just so vivid and well thought out (or maybe my nostalgia goggles are on too tight 😆).
