ok but like.. evil mighty nein au. Lucien still very alive but hiding after being buried alive and using his new ‘friends’ as human shields. Yasha who in her grief has ended up as Lucien’s personal attack dog for hire. Bren who is on a mission for the Volstrucker but has taken some time off to fuck around. Jester who was raised by her father to run the underground crime world of Zadash. Nott who has fallen into the Zadash underworld to get coin to support her habits, and as a result has gotten looped into Jesters crimes. Fjord who after the loss of his ships crew lets his falchion tell him who to kill without question and lets anger dictate his choices. Beau, whose family bought her way into the cobalt soul to absolve themselves of crimes, falling for the corruption and partnering with the Volstrucker.

I like to think that scattered among the versions of Caleb that the beacon makes him dream about; three stick with him. Closest to him is the faded memory of what he thinks Bren must have looked like, but it’s been so long he can’t seem to remember. The next is him now, he’s certain, but more clean shaven and a dark hood up to cover his face: faded green trailing up his arms, uncovered. But furthest away he finds himself greying, well manicured and face heavy with the marks of smile lines, adorned in a kind of purple that he had never seen in the empire. And he wakes up with nothing more then the memory of how the beacon made him for just a moment, feel warm.
