Beau: I'm just saying, from my experience, normally if you’re trying to do a coup-- Caleb: Experience as a what? Beau: As a rebellious teenage woman. In my experience... Caleb: [who famously avoids eye contact whenever possible]
✨you can reply to this message✨
all of nott's messages to fjord and molly while the rest of the party are breaking in to lord sutan's residence:
hey, fjord, jester wants to know: did we look cool? you can respond to this message.
we're going in, to the house. you can respond to this message.
we're making progress! you can respond to this message.
we are the fucking best! you can respond to this message!
i'm hurting! you can reply to this message!
remember the hospital? that. you can reply to this message.
i'm just. amazed. that any of this part of the plan worked. the last message reminds me of caduceus's "help, it's again." like, that's the vibe of this mission. optimism followed by yikes!
Nein Again Episode 12
So excited for this episode, it's one of my absolute favorites. It was so memorable for me in my first watch and I always think of it as the moment the Nein went from small town mercenaries to headed for something much bigger
I'm such a sucker for the german swears. Scheisse (13)
kind of wild how often mail fraud comes up in the early campaign. i love it (14)
is this when the meta-pigeon starts!?!? I had forgotten the original context (25)
Yup! It's the metagaming pigeon! One of the best recurring jokes (41)
Caleb's quiet "no we're not doing that" in response to Nott's plan of turning Molly into a burn victim. They really love to dance all over his trauma. (54)
I am also a sucker for all of the Caleb-Nott schemes. I love what says about their history that they have built up such a repertoire of pre-made cons (58)
This whole break-in is such perfect chaos, I adore it. The number of times that they had to completely pivot and the change the plan is crazy. It's very impressive that Fjord managed to salvage anything out of the situation, not that it got them anything at all.
oh shit, they accidentally get Lord Sultan implicated in the attack on the tri-spires don't they. All of their messages are vague and about the "plan for the festival." Little do they know that the festival is going to go to fucking shit (1:26)
Nott's one-track mind again lol. Who cares about a skeleton, I found these shiny bracelets (1:47)
TBH mage hand is probably not strong enough to carry a grappling hook and the weight of the rope (2:46)
Its actually kind of remarkable how much PvP this party does lol. How on earth do they always end up in situations where they end up hurting each other?? Iconic (3:04)
God bless Sam for keeping that pose for so long. His mouth has got be so fucking dry (3:15) its literally like a full 10 minutes
It is funny to me that it does seem easier to get into the Tri-spires the longer they stay in Zadash. I mean it is probably because Matt didn't want to waste time going over the same problem 100 times but still, seems like the guards are getting lazier (3:19)
Sam: "Everyone thinks that Matt is managing three storylines right now, but there's actually a fourth that we don't even know about" You have never been so correct Sam. (3:40)
tbh knowing that the High Richter has a copy of Courting of the Crick actually makes me like her more (3:42)
Caleb scratching his arms when Matt describes the scroll case (3:44)
Fjord with the falchion to Caleb's throat, such an iconic moment to me. The tension between them is crazy. I am suddenly aware of the Caleb/Fjord ship. And then of course, Nott immediately backing Caleb. "We're either a team or you're working for yourself. Decide." Such a defining moment for Caleb's place in the Nein and one of my favorites moments in the campaign (3:47)
This truly is one of the Most episodes. Such a pivotal moment in the campaign. Caleb and Fjord confrontation, attack on the Zauber spire, first description of dunamancy, first time they meet a Kyrn and see a beacon. Just crazy how one night so completely changes the trajectory of their lives
I am deeply curious how Caleb's spells and maybe even character trajectory might have changed if he'd actually been able to see the dunamantic attack on the Zauber Spire. Mr. Recreates A Spell After Seeing It Once After Just Being Stabbed? He'd still have been too far away to see any specifics of the spell, and he doesn't have the fundamentals of dunamancy yet, but.
Would he have tried to recreate it? Would he have dug into the beacon more readily and deeply? Once he read about dunamancy, would he have tried to direct the Nein to the Dynasty sooner? It's not chronurgy, but it's definitely magic that doesn't exist in the Empire: proof that what he's looking for might exist there, too.
Season One Finale
So, given we're not only gonna get pre-Trostenwald content but extra plot concerning Hot Boi, I think one of two things is going to happen.
Either season one is going to be really, really squished—too squished than it can be to establish these characters like it needs to—in order to get to Glory Run at the end of season one.
Which I would not care for.
Or.
Glory Run is farther down the road, and the Zauberspire attack and its repercussions—which connect to Hot Boi—is the much more likely candidate for the season one finale.
I know which one I'd prefer.
And I know which one might be more likely.
Here's hoping.
okay WHAT was the dunamancy the Kryn agents used on the Zauberspire. Black sphere of crushing gravity. Dark Star?????
Just wrapped up the Knights of Requital mini arc (so Ep 9: Steam and Conversation - Ep 12: Midnight Espionage). Hoping to keep blitzing and be caught up by episode 17 because it’s one of my favs, but in the meantime some thoughts on this chunk of episodes:
- The early episodes of C2, especially here in Zadash, did such a good job of laying a solid groundwork for everything to come. The players got the time to do some low stakes stuff so they had time to get to know each other, Zadash was a great location for really getting the flavor and ongoing conflicts of the empire, plenty of foreshadowing, and there was enough breathing room for the group to figure out who they were and wanted to be. I know plenty of campaigns start off with an inciting incident that immediately kicks off a plot and it works fine, but I’m a big fan of these slower starts that really let things simmer.
- The Mighty Nein really were just constantly needling at each other over everything, and this is meant in a complimentary way. Between Fjord clearly trying to scope out who was trustworthy, Beau’s nosiness, and Jester and Nott’s general lack of filter, the characters were constantly playing bumper cars against all each others’ secrets and backstory-influenced behaviors and quirks, and it’s so fun on a rewatch watching them violently stomp on each others’ rakes. Even something like Caleb’s commitment to being grubby, which could have easily just been passed over for character flavor or being eccentric didn’t slip past Beau.
- Ive said this many times, but the early C2 vibes were just so good. I’m not sure what particular sauce Matt was cooking with for this one, everything was just so vivid and well thought out (or maybe my nostalgia goggles are on too tight 😆).
Anyway, on to episode 13.
