I wanted to make a Nein Again drawing for Inktober, so I checked the c2e36 transcript for a fun moment to draw, and I chuckled at Caduceus saying he was "embracing chaos" and then immediately asking Fjord for his plan.

Reading it, I thought it was funny in a sad way, but when I checked the episode for visual references to use for the drawing, it turned out to just be sad sad. ^^; Such a great performance, I love this episode a lot..

Catching up on the last Nein Again episode and I find it hilarious in retrospect that Nott soundly rejects the idea that other planets exist when Caleb tries to point one out considering that in approximately eight years they’ll be engaging in a spec ops assassination of a tyrannical government on the damn moon.

Nein Again Episode 36 - "O Captain, Who's Captain"

Hilarious episode title and so many good one on one conversations in this episode. I just love the mighty nein so much you guys

(15) OH SHIT Cad. "You keep leaving. I think you might have the right idea" Damn he is having a ROUGH time. But god it makes sense, especially as someone joining the party late, with a very different set of morals and priorities. It's a heartbreaking scene but so important. I think it is important for characters to be able to express dislike with party actions and have real conversations about it (tbh a thing c3 was bad at)

(1:02) Like jesus fuck I forgot how heartbreaking Cad's perspective on this is. The idea of thinking that you're following a sign and then realizing that maybe you just abandoned your duties on a stupid whim. Also Jester's perspective on this is so good

(1:08) Really interesting conversation between Caleb and Beau. Definitely showcasing their different perspectives on morality here. I think Caleb is definitely trying to convince himself, while Beau is actually trying to interrogate their actions

(1:16) I do love that its literally just Beau and Yasha that can't change their appearance. Truly a party designed for subterfuge

(1:24) Sam is obsessed with being bad at astronomy.

(1:24) Ah yep there's the truth of what Caleb thinks. He is of the opinion that he needs to lie and pretend everything is fine in order to keep the group together, when really telling the truth is actually more likely to help. Especially since Beau was clearly hoping for honesty and ready to accept it. (I do love Marisha's immediate anger lol) It makes sense for Caleb though, turning towards manipulation to take control back of the situation. He has decided he wants this and he will do anything to keep it.

(1:31) I don't think I really picked up on this part of Cad's character development. Like he's very much exploring the terror of suddenly being thrust directionless into being an adult, but you normally see this play out in young innocent girls like Jester so its actually very neat that Talisin designed Cad the way he did. It's fun.

(nott) you had an axe in your head! you survived! (gallan) i had a what? i'm okay? is it bad? (nott) it's nothing to you. it's nothing! missed all the major organs. you're fine.

(nott) you have now officially been conscribed to the mighty nein— (jester) temporarily. (nott) —for the purposes of this sea voyage, at the end of which, you will be compensated for your duties. if you kill any of us, you will be thrown overboard. (jester) if you jump overboard, we'll jump after you, and we'll bring you back. (nott) and also, as a result of us not—mostly—knowing how to sail, you are also the first mate. (gallan) okay. (jester) congratulations.

(nott) he's your first mate now. and— (fjord) axe-head is? (nott) yeah, don't worry we took the axe out.

(caleb) you see the sun is coming up, but you can still see one or two up there. you see that one? (nott) the stars? (caleb) that's a planet, that one. that's another place. (nott) no. no, we're on the planet.

(nott) we'll keep them together. if all else fails, fake a heart attack. everyone will go to your aid, and then when they save you, they'll be like, "yeah, we saved him, yeah!"

(caleb) and there really is—it's another world. (nott) no. no, we're on the world.

(caduceus) oh, you know how it is. some rocks just don't sit right.

(liam) you picked a sailor, man. (travis) i know, i wished that—i'm glad i didn't pick an astronaut, or we'd be fucked.

(beau) you're with me on the whisper campaign? (nott) i am the whisper campaign.

(fjord) you want me to do it? (sam/nott) yeah, you're the sailor guy! this is your whole episode!

(nott) we need a crew! (sam) i look like cap'n crunch, by the way.

(jester) let's off-road it! (caduceus) as the crow swims.

(caduceus) oh yeah. i mean, probably. i don't know. i mean, i'm just barely attached on to this at this point, but i think you're fine.

(matt) they're very confused because there are no tusks visible on tusktooth. (travis) nope. you never want to see them.

(travis) one ounce! one inch punch! (matt) it is technically a monk weapon, the index finger. (marisha) my hands are registered weapons!

(nott) because even though we've made some mistakes and we'll probably continue to, it feels like we're a little bit better when we're together. this other fellow in the group, mollymauk, he sort of showed us that…by dying.

(nott) i'm not a religious lady, but i will tell you that, for me, this journey with this group has been a bit of a sign. i know that you're questioning whether it was for you, but... (caduceus) what kind of sign? (nott) a sign that there could be, for all of us, another chapter. (caduceus) wow, i thought i had you figured out. never mind. alright.

(matt) yeah, that's a 16. (sam) whoa, best roll ever. (marisha) that's because ashley's not here to roll initiative for herself.

(sam/nott) i've got you nameless deckhand!

(matt) not technically—it's holding, yeah, and it's not even an ally who's in combat with it, so. (sam) it's an employee.

(fjord) how do we prevent further heart episodes from— (nott) more friendship! just more friendship.

(nott) come on, captain, tell us what to do! (fjord) i have no idea. (nott) you're the fucking captain! (fjord) abandon ship! (nott) no!

(sam) oh boy, does that mean we all need to wear sailing clothing to our show in new york?

Nein Again music for Episode 36: O Captain, Who's Captain? under the cut!

After Sam's ad, Twin Elms from Pillars of Eternity plays during the announcements. This used to be the art reel music in C1 and at the beginning of C2.

At about 26:15, Family Matters from Witcher III plays during the Nein's interrogation of Galen. It's the song with creepy/hunting strings.

At 28:10 or so, Exodar themes from World of Warcraft play next as the interrogation continues, just before Jester tries mending the burnt paper. There's multiple themes, so I timestamped the main one below.

At 46:15, Forest Day themes from World of Warcraft play as Fjord and Beau threaten to rip off Marius's sleeves. I've timestamped one of the ones Matt seems to favor.

At 1:01:15, Burial Isle plays as Caduceus elaborates on his mission.

At 1:06:00, Emhyr Var Emreis plays as Caleb justified the Nein's actions to Beau. Matt tends to use a lot of Nilfgaardian themes for the Dwendalian Empire, so it's fitting to use that here.

Forest Day replays at 1:11:45 or so, toward the end of Beau's talk with Fjord.

Emhyr Var Emreis then replayed at about 1:23:30 or so while Caleb and Nott debrief.

I believe Dyrwood plays next around 1:26:00, though it was difficult to make out the music.

Exodar themes replay at 1:50:08 when Fjord tells the other team what supplies to pick up.

At 1:54:35, Temple of Woedica plays while the Nein realize the last position they need to fill is a navigator.

Burial Isle replays at about 1:59:40 while the Nein brainstorm ghost stories about Jester. Very apt.

Family Matters replays at about 2:06:45 as the Nein negotiate weekly pay with Orly.

At 2:45:15, After the Storm plays just after Fjord tests dipping his sword into the water. This song shares key motifs with Kaer Morhen if you're looking for similar music.

At 3:07:45, Caught Off Guard plays as Matt rolls to determine how many harpies are fleeing because of Caleb's Fear spell. Perfect match!

Forest Day music replays at about 3:30:45, as Fjord attempts to navigate through the Ink Claw Reef and... well, "attempts" was the operative word.

At 3:41:15, Easier Said Than Killed plays right after Gallan gets a Nat 20 to patch the big break in the hull.

At 3:44:10, The Vagabond plays once Caleb has his Tiny Hut in place and another ship approaches.

At about 3:47:00, Distant Horizons plays while Fjord decides whether to flee or beach the ship.
