Thoughts on C4E07 under the cut, for spoilers and because it's not entirely positive. Still enjoyed it! But there is a little bit of criticism.
This is just an early-campaign remark because I remember having similar thoughts at the start of C2. This table has less chemistry than I expected! I would have judged all of them to be similar players, yet I felt this episode like the characters didn't have the most chemistry, conversations were cut short (or maybe that was just some unfortunately-timed interruptions), and there was a haphazardness which made things messy and a little confusing. Maybe having different types of players would have made everything more balanced?
The first thing which came to my mind when the mastiff stopped by the tavern and Thimble later saw the emblem of the vassal house of Tachonis was to search for Cyd. Ultimately, I don't think he was there since I feel like Brennan would have pointed out a carriage or something more obvious. Still, a missed opportunity to confirm for real.
I also feel like Brennan sent a number of knights ("knights") away from the castle so that the group would have an easier time taking down Casimir with a weakened force. But then there was the whole sexy doctor plot to get in...? When they had advantage on stealth in the rain already? Amd which just brought Gully Breeches (lol) and the other knights back. I do think the whole table was getting confused on what to do at that point, and it was at the tail end of a long session, so not holding it against them.
Kattigan held a lot of promise for me at the start, but I feel him sliding down my personal rankings. Robbie doesn't seem to quite be able to hit his stride with the character; again, not sure if it's the table and him not finding the right opportunities to roleplay. This is one of those things where I think someone who will take him aside and actually have a proper conversation with him would allow Kattigan to shine a bit more.
Druid dog was so cute. I hope we see more! I wonder if she was there was backup in case the party got in over their heads, and Brennan had an NPC who would be able to bail them out or assist in some way.
All in all, it was an okay episode. I'm starting to miss the stronger (maybe the wrong word - I mean the ones who go deeper into their roleplay) RPers like Liam, Luis and Matt. I heard the tables were split based on player preferences on what they want to do, which is valid! From a viewer perspective, or at least my own perspective, I think the table performs best with a variety of RP styles, and this episode suffered for it.
