exposure | nadia & pax
[Nadia has weathered storms before, many times on her own. This one feels different, more claustrophobic---although going into the main building would’ve been a comfort, there are too many people now inside. She is forced to huddle for several days in untended stalls of the stables, and sometimes the docks, relying on her hidden supplies, growing weaker each day as she attempts to make her food last. Being trapped neither in the Colony nor out in the elements, she is greatly relieved when people begin to venture outside once more. It means she can continue dealing with a pressing issue.
He is not easy to track. But then, no one with this gift should be---not if they know what they’re doing. And if there’s one thing she’s learned from trailing the man called Pax, it’s that he projects the air that he always knows what he’s doing. He runs a stall in the small marketplace, engages in a few conversations but doesn’t seem too bothered or excited by much, and he flickers in and out with frustrating lack of warning. She would admire him, maybe, if not for his words ringing in her ears as a distant, foreboding klaxon: ‘I’m gonna find you.’
Finally, she spots him, and trails after when he wanders down a corridor she’s never had chance to explore. He comes to a door and enters his clearance, and she slips in just barely disturbing its weight before it closes---but not knowing precisely what this new room is, she is careful to keep a finger in the door, in case she needs to make a swift exit.
When she turns to see where they’ve ended up, she freezes, and takes half a step back, towards the cracked door. There’s no one but the two of them inside. A blue-white aura floods the space gradually, screens flickering to life with a few keystrokes from Pax. They show areas of the Colony that she can pick out---the rooms where they eat and train. She realizes a moment later---this is a surveillance room.
He will. He will find her. Maybe not immediately, but soon. He has access to the cameras.]
