Remains of a roadside brushfire, CA Hwy 33, Mile 30; deep in the Sespe above Meiners Oaks CA. The fire had just broken out when I drove by. Flames were already spreading 20' from the start. Another family pulled in behind me, and we beat it out. We used fire extinguishers, but this shovel killed it. A nearby CalTrans crewman was alerted, and he called in to USFS for finishing off. #ca33 #sespewilderness #entrenchingtool (at Ojai, California)

MOVIN' ON UP WITH TED LIEU

(NOVEMBER 15, 2014) On October 9th, "progressive" Democrat Ted Lieu tweeted an image from his campaign headquarters, arm-in-arm, with President Barack Obama. 

With a sane electorate, it would have been his death knell.  But we are talking about California's Congressional District 33, so it probably sealed the deal as Lieu went on to kick his Republican opponent's butt.

I send my sincere congratulations to Ted Lieu. Even though we disagree on policy most of the time, Lieu earned my respect while representing me as a state senator.

Unlike his successor Ben Allen (a.k.a. "Gentle Ben"), Lieu never shied away from constructive discourse with his constituents. Lieu has always been genuine, even taking to Twitter to defend his reputation in the middle of a campaign. It was an honor to be represented by such a stand up guy. 

I wish more politicians had Ted Lieu's character, backbone and desire to connect with the people they represent.

Even though he's a hardcore leftist, Lieu hasn't been a full-throttle-Obamabot. Let's hope that doesn't change.

Lieu has been critical of the NSA's unconstitutional actions, and he spoke up when it became obvious to anyone with a brain that Obamacare was sold on lies.

But sometimes I think Lieu is down with too many lefty bloggers.

In a recent interview with KABC's Adrienne Alpert (aired Sunday, Nov. 9th), Lieu sounded like he was auditioning to be an Obama cheerleader on msNBC.

It was as if he was channeling Ed Schultz or Rachel Maddow, recycling five-year-old talking points that scapegoat the Tea Party and John Boehner. (You may recall, President Obama promised to tackle "immigration reform" during his first year in office when he had a Democrat super-majority in Congress. But that was BS, just like his health reform sham.)

"(Speaker Boehner) has been captured by the Tea Party. He's unwilling to put (immigration reform) to a floor vote, so I urge the president to do what he can through executive action and get as much of immigration reform done as he can," Lieu told KABC's Adrienne Alpert.

Lieu continued, "I urge the president to do whatever he can because it's clear that Speaker Boehner is unwilling to move at this moment on immigration reform."

So while most of the 114th U.S. Congress freshman class will be going to Washington to stop Obama, it appears that the president will have an ally in "Looney Lieu" (I call him that with affection).

Best of luck to the new congressman. I know his heart is in the right place.

THE RETURN OF "GREUELLA DE VIL"

(MAY 29, 2014) A year after Wendy Greuel earned the nickname “Greuella De Vil" for her unethical behavior during the Los Angeles Mayor race, her alter-ego has returned just in time for next Tuesday’s CA33 Primary Election.

This mailer, paid for by “Wendy Greuel for Congress”, hit mailboxes in District 33 earlier this week:

I dislike Ted Lieu’s “progressive” fiscal politics, but I believe him to be a good, ethical man of high character.

In typical Greuel fashion, her campaign is trying to mislead voters with information that is out-of-context.  Deceiving acts like these are the reason Greuel earned the moniker “Greuella De Vil" in 2013.

The junk mail loosely connects Lieu to Ron Calderon, who was indicted on public corruption charges in February. It references a March 2nd editorial in the Sacramento Bee:

According to the indictment, Ron Calderon met with “Senator C” – believed to be Lieu – in June 2012, and “discussed the negative impact Senator C’s proposed legislation would have on Pacific Hospital and other hospitals.”

Shortly afterward, Lieu’s bill became inactive…

Now, for the rest of the sentence/paragraph:

Shortly afterward, Lieu’s bill became inactive, though it became part of a larger workers’ comp measure since approved that closed the Drobot loophole. Ron Calderon was one of the few Democrats who voted against it.

An FBI label of “Senator C” might sound scandalous, but in reality, Lieu (a.k.a. “Senator C”) has cooperated with investigators and is not a target in the Calderon public corruption probe.

“I was interviewed by authorities,” Lieu told The Los Angeles Times in an interview. “They informed me I am not a target or a subject. I do not have a [Grand Jury] subpoena but I did answer questions as a witness.”

I was hoping Team Lieu would have taken the gloves off by now.  Instead, Greuel’s goons have him on the defensive.  You have to fight fire with fire, especially when dealing with Wendy Greuel.

Vote against Greuella in CA 33.
