Eupsittula Cactorum
Caatinga Parakeet/ Periquito da Caatinga
March 4, 2021 - Caatinga Parakeet or Cactus Parakeet (Eupsittula cactorum)
These parrots are found in open scrubland and semidesert habitats in eastern Brazil. Their diet is made up of seeds, fruits, cactus, nuts, flowers, buds, and occasionally crops. They are often seen in pairs or in flocks of up to 20. Nesting in cavities in arboreal termite mounds, they lay clutches of four to six eggs. Both parents incubate the eggs and feed the chicks.
