Sometimes I just don’t have much to say about the lore except hey, look at this cool thing I found!
In 2007 Mattel released a limited run collectors set in the Gold Label brand called “Jazz Baby”. This consisted of three cabaret dancers, a mistress of ceremonies, and a “jazz diva”.
Each cabaret dancer came with a chair accessory and were fully articulated so they could be posed in all kinds of, presumably, provocative ways.
The Mistress of Ceremonies and Jazz Diva have less saucy costumes and accessories, but are still fascinating to me.
It was an extremely limited run — the box advertises fewer than 5200 dolls released — and on the secondary market a Jazz Diva in box is going for over $800 AUD.
It is rare to see a Barbie collection advertised with adjectives like smoky and lithe. Once I found this I couldn’t help but share it!
