Hey guys! I just hit 500 followers and that’s crazy, thank you all so much 😱 and i got my AS results which I am really pleased with, so I’d just like to share what helped me personally get through this school year with you all 🌷(you’ve probably heard it all before and it might not help you, but here you go anyway for those who are interested):
1. Go to all the revision classes right from the beginning
It’s your first week doing a new subject and you’ve only had one lesson and it was easy? Go to the revision session. This really helped for me because I struggle to get to work immediately after school.
2. Do all your maths homework
My teachers usually said “do every other question” or “do one row of each exercise”. Do all of it if you find it hard, rather than skipping questions just so you can watch TV or go out with friends. Especially for maths, practicing is the ONLY way to do well.
3. Know that it’s ok to procrastinate
Guys I procrastinated SOOOOO much like honestly half the time I spent procrastinating. It’s bad and I’m still not great at studying, but know that everyone revises in different ways and that’s ok and everyone procrastinates.
4. Use your lunch period as lunch
This helped me so much because eating your lunch and laughing with friends is honestly such a good way to relax, which then allowed me to go back to class and focus, or to go to the library to study.
5. Know that it’s ok to not be organised with revision all the time
You don’t need a timetable or to have colour coded folders or to have a routine that you follow. I physically can’t stick to revision timetables, so what I do is write a to do list, then choose what I want to do in my head e.g. “I’ll do this maths exercise then make some biology flash cards as a treat then do some chemistry equations”
6. Practice papers past papers papers papers exam questions mark schemes
If you don’t know where to start with studying, or you don’t study a lot, please at least do past papers. Use the mark schemes and mark them yourself. Don’t go crazy at the start of the year, past papers are great to do in the months before the exam when you’ve covered all the content.
7. Asking teachers for help with hard questions
Everyone gave me this advice and I know that it’s really hard to take, and I hate asking teachers for help still! but, if you push yourself to ask about one maths question that you sort of get, but not really, it will be worth it. Use your teachers, they are (usually!) happy to help.
8. Taking an hour to decompress straight after school
I found that between 4-5 I never was able to study effectively, so rather than try and fail to revise, I ate some food, or went to the gym (hahaha yeah right, that never happened) or watched TV or something. You might be different, but I found that this worked best for me.
9. Never compare your grades or study habits with your friends/not friends/other studyblrs
Ok ok I have examples to back this up bear with me:
My friend stops all activities during exam period. She gets up early and revises 8 hours a day during study leave and on weekends. She gets lower marks than me on every test we did.
My other friend revises very little, yet she gets close to full marks on every test. It used to infuriate me when I would study for the upcoming tests and she wouldn’t and she would do so much better.
Basically my point is, some people study loads, some people never study, but you have to ignore them and work as hard as YOU can whilst remaining sane, healthy and happy, without feeling guilty that Becky is revising right now when you’re hanging out with your friends.
Sorry this is long, and there are probably much better study advice lists out there, I just wanted to share this stuff. Most importantly I just want to say to not let yourself overwhelmed by stress (this advice is also for me next year!) and to stay positive, during exams but also all year.
Getting good grades whilst living a normal life is doable, so don’t hate yourself for not revising 24/7.
this season would seem like a fever dream to someone who has never seen the life series. what do you mean theres a car over there?? that guy just floated 50 meters away and died. why is my one meter house infiltrated with people who are literally 30 cm tall?? what do you mean theres leather up that guys butt.
