Cimarron and Cabin John
Cimarron and Cabin John
George Papaprodromou’s Cimarron (outside) hooked up with Dean Pederson’s Cabin John this morning. Cimarron worked 5 furlongs in 1:02.40. Cabin John went 6 furlongs in 1:14.40.

Day 1304: February 7, 2018 Rammed Earth House During the Great Depression, the USDA decided to champion to building of "Rammed Earth" homes, sometimes known more fancifully as "pise de terre." This construction technique involves compressing dirt, sand, and gravel to form the main structure of a building, rather than the much more expensive wood. This was seen as a cheaper alternative for Dust Bowl farms. The USA built some "pilot" homes in the DC area, of which this one still survives 90 years later. Though the technique never really caught on, it was structurally sound (as witnessed by the fact that this house is still here and used as a private residence). This particular house also has a completely unrelated claim to fame (?) as the place a young Hubert Humphrey, future Vice President and Democratic Presidential Candidate, stayed in the attic when he first visited Washington at age 24. 75th Street, Cabin John, Maryland
Moving to Gorgeous Studio in Cabin John, Maryland!
Moving to Gorgeous Studio in Cabin John, Maryland!
I’m so excited! I’m making a huge upgrade to my makeover and photography studio by consolidating my Alexandria and Baltimore locations and setting up shop in a huge Arts & Crafts house in Cabin John, MD! This 2700 sq. ft house on 3/4 acre has so many gorgeous areas, inside and out, for natural light photography plus I’ll have room for seamless backgrounds and strobes. I’ll even have a designated…

Cabin John
I live in a tiny community wedged between Cabin John Creek and the C & O Canal, just outside of Washington DC. Sometimes we are encircled in gridlock (my friend Tom always says “gridlock is good”, because he is a developer). When we walk down to the Canal, we sometimes see herons and always see lots of turtles sunning on fallen logs. We take our time on our walks, my wife and I - the Potomac River lies just west of the canal and there’s so much to see and think about these days. Just wish the bike riders rushing past us with their black rear ends bobbing would choose another path to accumulate their miles and and burn calories. They say “On your left” as they pass. We grumble, but they don’t hear us over the sounds of the river and their tires rolling on the gravel. Living in Cabin John is full of contradictions. I like it here.
We had a fun concert window in a snow storm. Joined by drummer de luxe Jim Stickley. Hardy neighbors walked over and listened live - we had a fire going, hot soup, mulled wine and beer for everybody. And it was a blast. Thanks everybody for watching the live stream. See a little video clip here - the last set, which was also the first set - The Pig Set: https://www.concertwindow.com/highlights?init=%2Fhighlights%2F5128
just having fun leaning against a lock house wall .. that's our record label: Lockhouse Records. You find that lock house along the C&O canal, casually walking from Washington DC to Shepherdstown WVa or even further .. Lockhouse 8 is the place to hang out. Right in Cabin John ... where the Potomac Conservancy hosts River Jams, ducks and geese hold conventions and Lilt rehearses. Stop by some time this spring and summer.
Rauhauser Loses Yet Again, At Yet Another Cause
Flashback, February 2012 Neal Rauhauser and business partner Beth Becker, after continually failing to get any political clients elected to any political seats at all in their now defunct Progressive PST, put on "hoodies" in support of Travon Martin, the Florida 17-year old who was killed by George Zimmerman. Unaccustomed to backing winners, they were on the wrong side of the ticket, AGAIN today, as Mr. Zimmerman was found not guilty of 2nd Degree Murder. I give you Neal and Beth, in their hoodies, hoping Las Vegas takes bets on the next cause these two take up next.
