Chest domination, Steve Kuclo
Newfound Trainer
It was after watching this video that inspired me to pick up my training. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ftmVLvQyZAs
To be great, you have to work hard smartly. It is not about just pounding your body, but you have to do it the right way. Set the goal, learn the right techniques, go hard.
I am also excited for playing some IM basketball with the STEP students. I got JD to call other people to the gym to play. Fortunately, some of the people have been on teams before, so I am really going to try to get them to teach me basketball techniques. I may be quick and can hustle, but without the technique and training, I'm going to get stopped pretty easily. Moments like this, I wish I had played sports like bball and football in high school.
Looking through my fb contacts, I decided to ask KV to be my trainer. I need someone to push me, to have high demands of me. I know that KV probably just wants someone to work out with, but I tried to make it really clear that I want him to train me. Hope he's up to the task. Today's workout was pretty brutal, but I felt good.
My weight was 149lbs. Maybe I really am skinnier? Anyway, here was my workout after 1.5 hours of basketball.
Seated dumbbell presses - 8x40, 8x45, 5x50 Tricep pushdown - 8x20, 8x25, 8x25 Lat pulldown - 8x120, 8x125, 8x140 Cable crossover - 8x20, 8x25, 5x30, 8x20 Skullcrusher - 8x55, 8x55, 8x55 Wrist curl - 8x30, 8x30, 8x30
The Andrew Luck of Stanford Dragonboat
One of my fraternity brothers keeps commenting that I am the Andrew Luck of Stanford Dragonboat, Andrew Chang. I find it quite flattering. I laugh it off, saying the name's Andrew Li (aka, my younger brother). hahaha, Funny stuff.
P had set up SDB to have a booth at GOALIE, which was the activities fair for graduated students. Attending this event represented SDB's intentional outreach and expansion into the graduate student population. It was both symbolic, but also very successful. Even if the 60+ people who signed up do not attend our Sunday Mingle & Games or try out dragonboating, I feel that it was successful in exposing the sport of dragonboating to the more of the Stanford community. M was also present with paddles and flyers of sorts.
The recruitment effort felt very strong to me. Especially when many members of the SDB leadership team attended the We Are Family event for the Asian community. We all had our jackets/jerseys on and it was really relieving to see that there was still a lot of energy for this. I did not feel like I had to do everything myself. My team captains were all there to keep the ball rolling. Because of this selected leadership group, I believe that the following years are going to be impressive, new beginnings for SDB.
I went to the gym to workout with H and R during the time between the two recruiting events. Today's focus was on chest and biceps. I don't wanna lie, but my entire body has been nonstop sore. But I did not want to take a rest just yet. I paired up biceps & chest by doing concentration curls and dumbbell flyes. The concentration curls were more difficult than I thought, but I could not keep the 35lbs and lowered to 30. As for the DB flyes, 30 was surprisingly light and so I tried to push it to see where I would start off the next time I work out chest.
As for benching, I could not even lift 135lbs off the holders and could barely completely a set of 115lbs. As for cable crossovers, these were really fun, but also straining. H was doing something like 50lbs, but I could barely push 25s without my shoulders feeling strained. As for pullups, we did a slight variation. We added a hold for three seconds at the top. To my surprise, the hold did increase the strain on my biceps, but it did not decrease the number of reps of pullups I could do. Very interesting.
9/23/11 @ 5:30pm [chest & biceps]
Concentration curls - 8x35, 8x30, 8x30
DB flyes - 8x30, 8x30, 8x35, 5x40, 4x45
Benchpress - 8x115
Cable crossovers - 10x25, 8x25, 10x20
Pullups w/ 3s hold - 5!
After the workout, H and I went to Wilbur to pig out.
