I can’t help but imagine the moments after Reginald Filibus reveals that all along the Mc was him. I think he breaks out into a manic laughter, one that devolves into sobs as he sits in this mostly empty apartment. I think about the way he describes the main character as a rival, but they describe him as “an old acting friend.” I think he misses them, maybe he lost track of them when they left the business, maybe they moved. Does he blame himself, think he pushed them too far, so far they left acting entirely? Then I go back to that room, Reginald Filibus breaking down, utterly alone in his best friend’s old apartment. He is the world best pretender, he can pretend everything is fine. He can pretend he wasn’t left behind.
