Tumerico, 2526 E 6th St, Tucson, AZ 85716
One of the most popular restaurants in Tucson, Tumerico is a Latin inspired casual restaurant. My friend said they used to only serve vegan food but they added vegetarian dishes at some point. The restaurant uses fresh, organic, and local ingredients. The daily menu changes every day but they also have bowls, breakfast dishes (huevos rancheros, chilaquiles, breakfast burrito – served till 1 PM), salads, and drinks that I think don’t change daily. Also, the bowls didn’t have any pricing on the chalkboard or I didn’t notice the pricing. I think most entrees are around $16.
Walk in and order and pay at the counter. They’ll bring the food to your table.
Cuban bowl: This was a big bowl of veggies (broccoli, diced potatoes, carrots, beans, one plantain slice on top) in a cilantro/garlic sauce. I think the veggies were sauteed? It was served with rice, beans, guacamole, 4 corn tortillas (made there, I think). Everything was good but simple. It didn’t have very bold or obviously Cuban flavors. But it seemed healthy and was filling.
Mr. Froyo had a jackfruit carnitas burrito that he said was filling but also not impressive.
Portions are generous and each came with the same sides (rice, beans, guacamole, pickles, etc.). I must have been tired because I forgot to take a picture of our food. My vegan friend seems to love this place but we didn’t feel the same.
The place is pretty large and looks like what used to be three spaces that were converted into one space. The entry area is where you order and where you can find drinks, baked goods, and take home items (e.g., corn tortillas). The other two areas are for seating and fairly spartan in appearance.
