♡ ――― He’s looking at the Old Mansion and he knows the stories are true.
Ghosts live here.
He swears he sees the dusty memories walking the halls and flickering through the windows, winking at him with their crooked grins. Standing even on the outside makes his skin crawl, his stomach wants to heave. But he stares defiantly up at the second story window where wispy white curtains hide the stark room inside: I’m finally brave enough to see you again.
He takes one step beyond the open, rusty gate. And then another. Each time his boots press into the plush, wild grass, it feels like an eternity has lapsed by.
Somehow, he makes it to the wide front doors. He stares at the once golden handle that begs him to turn it, but he’d rather do anything else. He wants to run away from this moment, from this place--
Yet he's the one that came looking for her this time.
The truth is he’s been avoiding Namine and Twilight Town for a few months now. In fact, after the final battle and everyone parted ways, there was that question that hung in the air between him and Sora: Where are you going to go?
Back then, he didn’t have an answer. Namine did, however, and decided to rest where their shared, shattered memories are buried: the Old Mansion. Roxas had nowhere else to go but back with Sora, cramming himself into Sora’s life because Roxas never had one of his own--he’s still sleeping on Sora’s bedroom floor, staring up at his ceiling that has those glow in the dark plastic stars glued to it. Namine started going down a path she made for herself--meanwhile, Roxas is still lost in Sora’s shadow.
Not anymore.
He’s here to say goodbye, because after tonight he’s carving his own destiny. And he's certain he’s going somewhere his friends can’t follow.
He takes a gloved hand and pounds it on the door, harder than he means to--the resounding booms echo throughout the empty halls. He tries to reel in his anger, tries to stop the sizzling nerves sparking over his skin, tries to get his head to just shut up for once so he can actually focus.
He waits there as the sunset glares at him from beyond, judging him in his black cloak that does not belong in this perfect world--but the truth is he never belonged here, not really.
Those days he spent in Twilight Town with Hayner, Olette, and Pence... that had been a dream he was forced to wake from.

That voice, she’s heard it somewhere before hasn’t she? Surely it wasn’t from her time before the keyblade war. So from where?
“S’cuse me miss!” She calls out and greets the blonde with a friendly smile. “This might sound strange but have we met somewhere before? You seem really familiar.”

❝ You still haven’t given me your name. Who are you? ❞
(cont. from here @cagedmemories)
It wasn't that Riku minded... not exactly. But did Naminé really not have a spare dress? "I can go out and buy you a spare. What size do you wear?"
@cagedmemories liked your post “ursaekey: Starter call????”
“You. What... are you doing here?”
Its dangerous right now, so very dangerous. Why he asks? Because of the heartless that erupt from every corner like some sparkler lit on fire by a idiot.
He’s careful to keep his voice low though.
@cagedmemories asks: “ do you truly believe that anything so little as a rule, or a law, might have stopped me from protecting you? “ - (From cagedmemories)

♡ ――― Roxas is running for his life.
He has both Oblivion and Oathkeeper clamped tightly in his gloved hands, using each to bat away Neoshadows as they come leaping at him from behind, desperate to catch up to his new, fleeting heart--their claws whip out to catch the hem of his cloak, to graze at his boots, and Roxas has never ran so fast before. He’s panting with the effort to hurry away, his heart pounding so hard it’s all he can hear despite the onslaught of Heartless thundering behind him.
Roxas can only see the twisting dirt roads before him, outstretching and twirling out into the dark horizon. Only the moon, full and shining brightly above, lights his path. He’s careful to remain on the clean path that leads to nowhere, but soon he will be too exhausted to take another step and then the Heartless will feast on his light, until there’s nothing left but a hollow shape of a boy.
The Heartless begin building into a massive wave, so huge that their shape blocks out the silvery light of the moon, and for one terrifying second Roxas thinks this is it, surprised that his life will once again be cut short--
He hasn’t carried this heart long, but he’s already going to lose it to darkness--
Abruptly, Roxas sees a stronger light than even the moon building behind the Heartless’ cresting wave: he watches the shadow’s shape growing starkly before him as he runs, enveloped by a white pool of dazzling light... and as Roxas pounds onward, he thinks he hears the roar of a Gummiship, though he reasons that can’t be possible--his Gummiship is parked elsewhere on the world, too far to reach by now.
He chances a glance behind him and sees the Heartless’ hundreds of empty, golden eyes staring back at him, frenzied--yet more bizarrely, Roxas can spy with growing horror the lights and hull of a foreign Gummiship darting right at him--
For a second, there’s only the white light, a barrage of chittering from the Heartless and the howl of a nearing Gummiship...
Roxas dives off the path into the grass, summoning away his Keyblades just as he begins crashing onto the ground, rolling and tousling to a stop--
There’s a CRASH, the dirt path torn apart as a Gummiship spears through it cleanly, blasting apart Heartless as it rips through their horde. Roxas struggles to sit up, watches in shock as the Heartless ripple away, their darkness dissipating into the sky, the ravenous horde torn apart by the Gummiship that crash-landed a few feet away from him, smoking in the dark night.
There’s a sudden, eerie silence that pulses around Roxas as he pants on the ground, surprised he’s still alive. He’s too shocked to move, so he merely sits there in the grass staring at the Gummiship.
With a sudden hiss the hatch pops open and Namine comes clambering out.
Seeing her there in her stark white dress and pretty shoes, blinking at him with those too-blue eyes, it only reminds him that she doesn’t belong here in this world of in-between and danger. She should be back on Destiny Islands, reunited with her dearest friends, living a real life with her new shiny, pulsing heart.
Seeing her there also inspires something in Roxas--he finds himself rushing to his feet, stomping over to her. His eyebrows are furrowed, his lips pressed tight--she just saved him, but for some reason he’s angry. He has no reason for the way his cheeks flush at the sight of her running over to him, no logical explanation for his shuddering heartbeats that worry/worry/worry over her so much that it melts into smoldering rage that she would do something so risky--
“What are you doing here?!” Roxas demands, just as her lips pop apart to speak too, but she’s silenced by the way his eyes spark dangerously, flickering like embers that are about to ignite. “Are you crazy, Namine? You could have died! If Sora knew you were here, we both would be dead!”
His tone is rough, frantic, and his hands clasp onto her shoulders so that she can clearly see the grief in his eyes--if something happened to her, it would be his fault.
Roxas is always leaving his friends behind... why is he so shocked one of them finally followed?
Namine allows him to relent a little, to relax his stiff grasp on her slight shoulders, then she says evenly, clearly, “Do you truly believe that anything so little as a rule, or a law, might have stopped me from protecting you?”
And all he can do is stare at her, stunned by her honesty.
“Namine... you can’t just follow me--I’m going somewhere dangerous. If you came with me, I couldn’t protect you,” he explains softly, his anger dying abruptly, as if she had splashed cool water on the fire of his rage. “And if something actually happened to you--”
He shakes his head, breathless under all those stars shining down upon them.
“I don’t know what I would do with myself.” He drops his hands from her shoulders then, regards her with a gentler look now, as if he’s seeing her for the first time in a long while. As if he’s seeing her differently. “So please, go home Namine. It’s safer for you on Destiny Islands, not with me.”
He’s telling her to go... but in his traitorous heart he wishes she could stay.
@cagedmemories 🖤’d!
“Naminé, will you turn around for me?” It was a simple enough request, she hoped, and one that the girl would have to trust her on. When she acquiesced, Aqua simply smiled, carefully, gently brushing those golden locks aside to expose the back of the blonde’s neck. After another moment, a sleek silver chain, cool to the touch, was strewn about that pale skin. Attached was a star-shaped pendant of her own making, white and pure like a diamond, which nestled so comfortably against that tiny collarbone.
Hands found petite shoulders, ever-so-gently turning the girl about, and Aqua’s smile widened as she admired her handiwork. Taking a step back, she nodded in approval, clasping her hands in utter delight! Naminé was already so adorable, even in her simple garb... adding just a splash of glamour only made her shine that much brighter. “It’s perfect..! What do yo think?”
